"Tinfoil theory"..why Saddam now - keep "stockmarket and euphoria going"
Laugh away...

Shrub needs the economy and stock market and positive consumer confidence to go higher. The stock market is at a critical "valuation"...

* the dollar has been falling like a rock

* gold has been rising

* the world keeps the US afloat by buying our debt ($1.5B / day)

* corporate earnings are improving...but the US can't sustain the latest terrific GDP quarter of 8% growth.

If the market did pull back quite a bit...people would lose again...they would distrust "the economic recovery"...seeing that job claims are rising and companies continue to lay people off.

It's multipurpose in terms of benefit:
--------------------------------------
* Halliburton getting too much attention
* Dean/Clark getting too much space and polls showing them ahead of *
* the stock market/ economy stimulus (maybe x-mas spending shot)

Watch the stock market on Monday...and then laugh. The fly in the ointment could be the continuation of "soldiers ambushed".

1. Maybe
It does seem mighty convenient that Saddam is captured in the middle of the holiday season --- with Halliburton actually hitting the mainstream media's radar screen, etc.

Perhaps it was simply fortuitous, or perhaps Saddam's movements have been marked and known for some time and it was simply a matter of snagging him at the right moment?

Probably is simply tinfoil speculation, but stranger things have happened.

2. I'm waiting for the DNA test results...
I really hope he's been captured, but what about all the look alikes they had around to keep his cover. Weren't there several? This could be a look alike, and I won't be convinced till the DNA results are confirmed.

4. I was sure that he would be captured in Oct. 2004 so
I think this is certainly better than that. Bush will definitely get some mileage out of it. However, it all depends on what happens next. My guess is that Sadaam will not go on trial before the election; there is too much he can disclose.
