This capture helps Edwards, Gephardt the most
Edwards has been among the most hawkish on the Iraq situation, and has been consistent in saying he thought the invasion as necessary.

Gephardt also is helped by this news, for the same reason that he was hawkish on Iraq.

And it goes without saying, but this is bad news, potentially crippling, for the current Dem front-runner for obvious reasons.

1. I dont think it cripples anything
No one who was anti-war will now be pro-war because Saddam was captured.

5. Please explain
I'm failing to understand how the capture of Saddam enforces the notion that the invasion was necessary.

7. Strictly a PR thing, but it always seems to work.
networks and Biden (the Repub mole) are already hyping it as great for Bush and the Country.

6. Edwards has actually been succesful in moving the argument past whether
invasion was right to whether we're doing the wrong thing now, so I'm not sure that this will give him a bump.

Kerry is the one getting attacked the most for having voted yes on IWR.

Because this might make people feel better about that, then Kerry will probably be the one helped the most by it.

But it's really hard to predict who benefits the most. Perhaps Bush benefits the most. Or maybe it's a wash all the way around. But if there's a trial that gets publicity, then Dean's statements about Sadaam not being dangerous might come back to haunt him.

8. that's because
the first primary in new hampshire is where kerry needs to do good. it's not as important to edwards as it is to kerry so the focus of attacks was on kerry. but things change with edwards in south carolina which is important to him. but in south carolina the iwr is not that big a factor. i read somewhere that dean toned down the iraq issue when he comes to south carolina. but i agree about not really knowing who benefits for now. the problem with kerry is that the media usually doesn't allow him to get his message out or just report what he said. rather they make claims about how he was trying to do this or that without ever really just reporting what he said. and that is hard to get around. hopefully edwards can prepare for it by the time south carolina comes around.

9. Time to take a fresh, clear look at all the candidates.
I do agree that this is potentially crippling to Dean. Except he'll probably insist he never said anything about Saddam not being dangerous...

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Doctor spins this.
