God Bless America
so ended the General's press conference this morning.

What's does God blessing America have to do with Saddam's capture?

If I were Muslim, I'd be highly offended.

17. Yes I do
I asked a question, that's all. Frankly, I don't think they care. Indeed, several weeks ago, our glorious leader stated that we all, Jews, Moslems and Christians (and I suppose that IS all????) worship the same God. Now the Right Wing Christians took offense, but knew when to keep their mouths shut for the good of the cause. Frankly, I think "God Bless America" is a thinly veiled rewording of Heil Hitler anyway.

I disagree on one point -- I think they do care.

I like Bush's "and may God CONTINUE to bless America."

said in that same sneering tone he uses when he "expects" Congress to "have a bill on my desk."

You BEST continue blessing me, boy!

7. I love that.....
let's use any good thing that happens as proof that God is on our side...

bush is now a no talent rapper winning a Grammy...

If God grabbed and suspended the planes prior to impact,
that would be a "blessing".

I'd be highly offended too.

It's sad.

However, the US wants this holy war. Let's see if karma will prove them wrong.

30. There is no god, perhaps...
Allah (God) didn't help Saddam nor the 10,000 Iraqi people US troops maimed and slaughtered over a lie and quest for vengeance.

God certanily didn't help us on 9/11 when 3000 of our own died, nor the 3000+ Afghanis who died in return.

The religious folk just want us all to believe that God causes things to happen.

Maybe it's peoples' actions that determine how others act? *gasp* Such a sinful revelation!

Very strange bloke, this God...

Of course, if karma is counting, that's 13000+ people who died under the monsterous eye of Bush II*. Make that 16000+ if it's true that Bush II's* people were trying to make a deal with the Taliban, who had enough sense to tell Bush II's greedy cronies to F--- OFF. And it is 16000+ because BUSH KNEW IN ADVANCE about 9/11, and let's not forget that Bush has said God has sent him to do all this...

When Jesus failed, send in a Bush*, what the hell. :eyes:

The Muslims and you Christians worship the same God as we Jews.

Besides which "God Bless America" doesn't mean he can't bless a few countries too.

8. CatWoman, the Truth has a way of coming out
when people are so caught up in the moment that they forget to stay on-message. In the few seconds that it took to utter the phrase, the general inadvertently revealed that this NEVER WAS about liberating Iraq; that it was ALWAYS about American interests (read: corporate profits).

16. Did they say WHICH god?
There are lots to choose from. Let's see, Odin, Zeus, Thor, Ares, Athena, Loki, Coyote, Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Satan, Hel, Freya, Demeter, Hera, Cthulhu, your ancestors, and the list can continue.

I'm betting they're asking Ares, the Greek god of war to bless America. It seems to be working.

38. I think Mark Twain felt the same way
this is part of Mark Twain's "The War Prayer"

"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle -- be Thou near them! With them -- in spirit -- we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

The whole thing is about going off to war, and asking God to bless just your side, and what happens to the people you are fighting. Would God really bless or approve of that?
