Saddam capture is good for the world
And it don't think it will, over the next 10 months, help Bush THAT much. The danger is that the Democratic party -- that's us -- is if we're seen as wishing that things go poorly in Iraq.

Come one, none of us is on Saddam's side. None of us is on Bin Laden's side. Bush had a mediocre, long overdue success.

At least we got Saddam. Seems like he'll face a fair(ish) trial.

Don't let yourself be cast as against America. Join the candidates who are saying "Good for us. Now, back to the real problems."

1. I'm glad
I am very happy our soldiers got him. Too bad Bush will take the credit- but that's the way it goes. Hurray for our guys and girls who have been risking thier lives every day and night for Bush's war. Maybe now they can come home .

2. Fine, but
I see too many here buying into the propaganda that Saddam was a major threat to the world.

He sucked, for his people. Let's not deceive ourselves for a second about the true reasons why the BFEE went into Iraq. Wasn't about human rights.

3. Agreed. And congrats to the troops, too -- they deserve SOME good news
And the other good news is that none of them got killed in this particular mission, too.

We must not take away from the only positive aspect of the sacrifices that they are making and the miseries that they are suffering.

And the Iraqi people also will have a reason to feel, for the moment, as if there is some reason to hope.

Who knows? Perhaps Bush will actually give the Iraqi people a chance to put Saddam on trial, and there are surely many of those who would have a sense of healing from seeing that happen.

Regardless of what happens to Saddam, unfortunately, I'm afraid the afterglow won't last long, and in two months (or less) the situation on the ground will be identical to what it was last week.

4. Frankly, I would have been happier if he had been killed
Seriously. I'm sorry it didn't work out that way.

For some time, I've said that were I a leader of the Iraqi resistance, I would have put a contract out on Saddam. He's as much the enemy of the Iraqi people as is Bush and his gang of thieves.

Having Saddam dead would clear any confusion about the Iraqi resistance being about returning Saddam to power. Having him alive better serves the purpose of the colonialists.

6. Huh? I think he needs to be tried so that people can see what he did.
It's the truth that sets us free.

5. It's not wishing that things would go badly in Iraq
that so many of us were worried about. It was the certainty.

7. Geopolitically, you are absolutely wrong
No one disputes that free elections, if they ever occur in Iraq will lead to an islamic fundamentalist cleric coming to power....one who will be philosophically aligned with Osama and his gang.

We put Saddam in power to begin with 35 years ago because he was not a fundamentalist. He served our interests well for many years.

Careful what you wish for. The world is not black and white and there are no easy answers.

This is extremely simplistic thinking worthy of a RWer. This is not a football game to celebrate, but we are treating it as such. It's a complicated chess game on the board of the world, and we have an idiot moving the pieces around the board.

I'll save my cheering for the day our troops are out of Iraq.

8. The guy (Saddam) was a monster
Does this make the world safe for Democracy? No.
Does this stabalize the middle-east? No.
Does this make America safer? No.

But it does bring a despicable tyrant to something approximating justice. I'd be just as happy if someone else captured him. Saddam is exactly the sort of person that everyone on the left should despise.

11. So, tell me, why aren't you over there fighting?
How many other monsters do we need to get rid of?

Why was he any worse than the dozens in Africa or Asia?

Could it be you are ok with killing to steal oil and need a Monster for justification?

I'm not.
