Saddam caught? Like I should care...
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 11:30 AM by PSU84
Catching Saddam will not lead to discovering the weapons of mass destruction that he didn't have in the first place. It won't end the insurrection in Iraq, because that isn't about Saddam - it's about the American occupation. It won't justify the neocon policy of "pre-emptive war." It won't prevent terrorist acts by groups like Al Queda, because as "W" has finally admitted, Saddam was not linked to the events of 9/11. It won't turn George W. Bush into a competent President. In short, after all the media hoopla and the self-congratulation at the White House, it won't mean much of anything.

1. You should care
It boosts the campaign of the ONLY candidate with a realistic shot in '04, Gen. Wesley Clark. Also joe schmo cares about this sort of thing.

7. The only campaign that this helps (temporarily) is Bush's.
In the long-term, Saddam's capture (good!) will force Shrub to focus on the REAL problems in Iraq and Afghanistan and on Osama bin Forgotten.

Saddam was a red herring, IMHO. He had no power after U.S. forces began occupying Baghdad.

4. Where's Osama?
Still the question we should be asking.

5. Correct
So many people still think of Iraq as a just war. The propaganda from the WH has slowly but surely changed the dynamics of 9/11. If we had finished the job in Afghanistan and gotten Bin Laden things (Ihope) would have been different. I think the Dems still have an edge on this matter.

6. I'm with you...
but the media isn't going to any pains to explain any of this to the sheeple. I heard a caller on c-span this morning say she was glad Saddam was captured because it will bring "closure" to the 9/11 families. WTF? Hey lady, get a clue. Saddam was never any threat to you and had nothing to do with 9/11. Think that simple truth is going to be broadcast anytime soon?

Meantime the soldiers over there will continue to be ducks in a shooting gallery. Halliburton will continue to rake in the bucks. The PNAC agenda will go forward. Americans will continue to wear blinders - buying the lie that this is all about "freedom." Honest to God if you told the average ignoramus out there that its an old Iraqi tradition to live in towns surrounded by barbed wire, they'd believe it.
