Now What? We Execute Saddam?
Capturing Saddam alive allows him to argue his own case. Bush can't just take him out back and have him shot. Yes, he's a son of a bitch, but he's their son of a bitch and they know it.

After Bush executes Saddam, Saddam may be more of a problem dead than alive. There was never a justification for the invasion, and putting Saddam to death won't provide one.

The Iraqis are fully aware that Saddam was not captured in a fancy villa in France or Thailand. He was living in a farmhouse cellar near his birthplace.

1. Well, in court there would be the small mattter that....
....the US has no legitimate jurisdiction in the matter.

The invasion was illegal, the trial would be illegal. I'd guess that they will try to get him tried in Iraq by the IGC, some of whom would doubt like to order him hanged without an opportunity to speak. But are they realistically (politically) free to do so? Not sure.

2. the 'bush' bounce is already buried in 'Holiday Season' stuff....

lots of Americans actually think that Saddam is ALREADY dead or captured...nobody really cares about this...what they care about is HUNDREDS of Americans dead in Iraq, and THOUSANDS of Americans permanently wounded, and who-knows-how-many Americans SICK from Depleted Uranium, pesticides, nitrosoamines, bacteria/virus/parasite diseased....and Americans care about all the $$$$ being spent/stolen on Iraq....

BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW !!!

it is a GOOD thing that this 'glorious' bush* crap is getting buried in the holiday season....we can only hope that reaguns funeral 'glorious' leader stuff gets done with over the holiday season too...

then, we will be ready for the campaign season, minus bush* 'glorious' leader stuff, and with all bush* failures in full monty....

3. No, Saddam will be turned over to Iraqi court
The U.S. will not execute Saddam, that wouldn't work. It would be a terrible blunder for the U.S. on the world stage.

Maybe Iraqi court will, but even that I doubt.

4. Blunder?
I don't think Bush has a choice about executing Saddam. He certainly can't pardon him, and no other punishment is appropriate.

6. That Won't Work Either
Bush won't turn over a celebrity prisoner to a body that conceivably would set him free. A trial in the World Court avails Saddam a lot of legal options that a military tribunal won't allow. Bush wouldn't risk it.
