Kerry did not say that he was proud of his IRW.
The previous thread was an interpretation. This is how rumor start people. It is wrong to say that Kerry said something he did not. People on that thread responded that his being thread was reason alone to not support him.

I think the proper term for that kind of attacks is libel.

Will Pitt started a thread that showed what Kerry said about this.

Deanies. What would you say if I said that Dean said that he was upset that Hussein was captured as if he actually said it and then it turned out that it was my interpretation? You would see it as a disgusting personal attack on him and you would be right. I would never say that about Dean because it would be a lie.

Mods, please do not lock. It was important that there be a direct response to this attack so that that misleading title was not the only one in the GD list. Otherwise you should lock the other thread because the title and opening lead the reader to believe that Kerry actually said that. He did not. The author of the thread admitted it was his interpretation.

1. You are correct. He didn't SAY that he was proud.
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 12:16 PM by BullGooseLoony
He merely mentioned it in a proud manner so that he could take credit for capturing Saddam Hussein.

On edit: Sorry for the "screw up."

7. Another interpretation
Or misinterpretation. He has always said he voted to hold Saddam accountable and get inspectors into Iraq. He's always been clear about his purpose and clear about Bush's failures in that effort. He also continues to keep pressure on Bush to get the diplomacy right in order to win the peace. Funny how you missed that part.

10. No, I fully understand his position
as supporting invading Iraq as long as we have a coalition.

17. Kerry stated publically that he did not support the invasion and that he
would, if he were president still be using inspections today. On Hardball. Your misunderstandings of Kerry's positions, do not make them true.

In January 2003, he also stated that Bush was clearly Rushing To War.

I have children. Sometimes I give them the benefit of the doubt that they can do something right. Then I can see that they cannot handle something dangerous and I am not afraid to change the situation. Do I regret giving them some responsibility. Yes, but I was right to try and trust them. It is how they grow. But I regret it none the less. Same situation in my opinion. Now Kerry is taking charge and offering ways to fic this. That is what we need right now.

18. You're right. He's far to "nuanced" for my taste.
He voted FOR the IWR, yet he expected Bush NOT to go to war, EXCEPT (maybe?) if we had a multi-lateral coalition, HOWEVER, if HE had been president, we'd still be doing the UN inspections.

Wow. Stop Kerry before he qualifies himself AGAIN, into utter oblivion.

And Bush isn't a child. He's the President of the United States. And Kerry should have, and I'm sure DID, see that Bush was hell-bent on having a war.

19. Voting Kucinich?
He's the only one who supported diplomacy alone, no war ever.

5. I have to laugh
Did you even once raise this in any of the scores of threads that did this to Dean? And if you dare ask me for examples I will find them and post them here. Time after time after time Dean's words were twisted or sometimes made up by Kerry supporters with not a peep by you. Yes, Kerry's words should not have been twisted but you are rather late to this party.

6. “You’re right. I was wrong to trust him. I’m sorry I did.”

but not so sorry that he did not volunteer his instrument of trust
His vote for the IWR

-snip
The most revealing moment of the entire event came as it was breaking up. Kerry was slowly working towards the door when he was collared by Art Spiegelman. Though Kerry towered over him, Spiegelman appeared to grow with the intensity of his passion. “Senator,” he said, “the best thing you could do is to is to just come out and say that you were wrong to trust Bush. Say that you though he would keep his promises, but that you gave him more credit than he deserved. Say that you’re sorry, and then turn the debate towards what is best for the country in 2004.”

Kerry nodded, bowed his head, and said, “You’re right. I was wrong to trust him. I’m sorry I did.” And then he was gone.

8. I'm easily fooled by impressions, you know?
Like this morning.

When he said that he was sorry I had thought that he had realized he had voted wrong, and I was thinking about supporting him, over Dean.

I stand corrected, though! Silly me.

13. How has that changed. This morning Kerry said that he was glad Saddam
was caught. Unless you believe that everyone who voted against it would say something different, I cannot see how anything has changed here.

Kerry still thinks that Bush cannot be trusted to do things right, but hopes for our country that he does. How can anyone hope differently. Our men and women are in danger, whether we believe that they went there on a lie or not. We must hope that they can be brought home with honor and safely and right now Bush is the President, I hope that he will FINALLY do things right.

We can and will win in 2004 and we cannot hope for negative things in order to win. The Democratic party is right for this country no matter what the situation in the economy or the war. We must offer a positive vision, so that our hopes do not hang on the failure in Iraq and the ecenomy. I don't think you suggested this.

11. Actually, Dean supporters deal with this kind of thing every day here
It's not much fun, is it? Perhaps this will help you understand why some Dean supporters get fed up and a bit defensive. I suppose I could tell you what the anti-Dean folks tell us..."Get used to it. It's good for your guy to deal with this now because it's only going to get worse."

15. Give me proof that Kerry is swaying Bush'd side. You are making it up
again. Kerry spent the morning on FOX, saying all of the things Bush should do to make this situation better. Isn't that what all of the candidates have been doing all along? Kerry said what he has been saying all along. That Bush fed this up. Why shouldn't our candidates offer solutions. Are we to resign ourselves to being only angry and not to being one that has a solution to how to fix this Iraq mess?

I don't know what you were responding to. Ignore on that person.

16. I saw it with my own eyes this morning.
So did others. He touted his vote on the IWR to take credit. Then he started in on his old "multilateralism" line, which is the exact same impotent position he was working from before.

For the LAST time.
