"Saddam officially a prisoner of the U.S. government"
just now, according to Dan Rather.
I know virtually nothing about international law.
Can anyone explain to me how "we" have the right to "arrest" a foriegn national in their own country?
Has Hussein commited any crimes against U.S citizens or property?

I'm not being nit-picky, or trying to rain on w*s parade.
I just don't understand what laws give us the right to do this.

Thanks in advance for your enlightenment.

That's "how "we" have the right to "arrest" a foriegn national in their own country?"

The Befucked Administration has the right to do whatever it god damn well pleases. Have you forgotten that fact?

7. Actually, you bring up a good point.
I'd forgotten about that.
If they really have hard evidence that he put out a contract on G.1, I guess they could get him for conspiracy to commit murder.

14. They should hand him over to the UN for trial!
That would be the smart move! I never thought they would take him alive, because he might tell where he got the WMD!

16. Gets my vote.
Except I don't think I get a vote.
If the Bushies* are smart, I think they will do this. Lot's of political mileage and a PR opportunity to recapture some of our squandered international prestige.

20. Yep, 'KKKid Enron' has his fist full of aces now!
Drawing this last ace might give him the pot in 04! The Bushistas don't tend to do the smart thing sometimes for hidden reasons! To try Saddam in the UN he would get a chance to sing like a bird! To rathole him and not let him tell his story might be the administration's only option, because of the things he knows about Global Gunrunning from the Reagan/Bush I era!

This Ace of Spades is a Hot Potato alive! Could be another trifecta if KKKid Enron plays his hand right! Whatever the KKKid does will be down and dirty you can bet your last wad on that!

BTW I hope Dumbya draws a FLUSH in 2004, all the way back to Dixie!

15. I think you got the right spin.
And I do mean RIGHT spin.
I really think this is a blip, in spite of the morning claims that this is a "very significant event".
Proof of the pudding is whether guerilla attacks continue.
Someone said elsewhere "that hidey-hole sure didn't look like a command and control center".

17. It's not a right wing thing.
I don't believe ANYONE of ANY party should be coming on here and saying Saddam wasn't a bad man. He killed off members of his government, he gassed the Kurds, he ordered mass graves, public killings, the list is numerous. It's safe to say the world is a better place without him. And you know what? I don't care if that sounds too "Right wing" for you- I am happy that he's gone. That doesn't mean that I don't know this ordeal in Iraq is FAR from over... FAR FAR from over. The troops are still going to die, the Iraqi people are still going to revolt (because we're still there), and the country is still going to be a mess. It's got to be fixed, and I'm curious to see how George Bush handles it.

18. I agree, but...
Saddam is a bad man.
I am not "unhappy" that he was captured.
I don't think anyone is unhappy, except possibly Saddam.
But...
I think this is a small blip on the radar screen in the larger scheme of things like the never ending war on terra.
There are other bad men who are cruel dictators in control of other countries who don't happen to have huge amounts of a natural resource that we heavily depend on.

I still say the Bushies* will spin this for all it's worth. What remains to be seen is whether this has any effect on the attacks on our troops. I'm thinking not. I hope I'm wrong.

19. I never said it was an end to the war on terror
Of course it's not over, it'll never be over. The war on terrorism is a joke. you can NOT ever abolish terrorism. It is like the "war on drugs"... you can't abolish drug use, it's always going to be there no matter how many crackdowns you do. And yes, there ARE other bad cruel dictators in other countries, I don't disagree with you there. The motives were oil in this case, but it doesn't mean I can't be happy about his capture. I am unhappy that it came down to invading a country and losing so many troops. I am unhappy that we left the country a mess. I am unhappy that our troops and their people had to suffer from our invasion.

So, If I recall correctly-
You assumed I thought this was the end based on the fact I was happy Saddam had been captured, then proceded to tell me I was spewing a right wing talking point.

Lighten up, or take it to GD.
Who said anything about "spewing" except YOU?
I've been as polite as I know how to be.
Go get another cup of coffee and chill.

"the RIGHT" spin.
I was NOT accusing you of putting the spin on, but I guess that's how you read it.
OK, never mind.
I'm willing to be forgiven.
