Has a president ever been more insincere than Bush while speaking?
I saw clips of his speech this morning. The try-hard compassionate look, the choices of where to break up the speech. Saying "Em" instead of "them" revealing how fake it all is. Yup if there's one thing Bush will be remembered for it's how insincere he can make a speech.

We all dislike Bush here. But has there ever been another president that was more terrible at giving speeches? This guy is awful.

3. Heavy coaching
He was c-l-e-a-r-l-y enuciating every word. I was watching ABC and the WH reporter said that initially it was going to be a press conference with q and a. At the last minute they switched to no press in the room. Hmmmm.

5. His dad wasn't too good at speaking either
But at least with Poppy the issue was the lack of speaking skills itself, rather than simply being a complete moron.

9. At least his personality was consistent
Junior seems to have at least three: (1) the smug, arrogant, drawling podium pounder who speaks at Home Depot and factories in Ohio and struts around on aircraft carrier decks, which I happen to think is close to the real deal; (2) the fake serious non-drawling one who delivers addresses with flags in the background; and (3) the scared-looking thumb twiddler who went to the UN. What they have in common is they lie like a mofo.

8. You know he was coached
Karl Rove made him practice 10 times before he went out there. "Now, Georgie, read the words I wrote that appear on the teleprompter. Read them very slowly. If you mispronounce any of the words, there will be no dessert for you tonight."

10. correct answer --> NO!
He is so insincere, everything he says is a Big Lie or in service of a Big Lie.

In that respect, he goes way beyond any politician every to be in the White House. Newt Gingrich and his ilk were advance warning. We'll continue to get more such politicians from the Right Wing until it all collapses, as all lies do.

11. I do not know anything about your new PM, but
he has to be better than Bush no matter what he is like. Oh, why am I a citizen of this autocratic pseudo-empire?

12. Actually, I think Reagan was equally bad...
... but in other ways--he could deliver the words with some feeling, as long as he had his trusty 3x5 cards. He could make the public believe. That's equally insincere.

Nixon, as well, could be a convincing liar--until he started to sweat.

Bush comes off as insincere because he's a bad actor (literally and figuratively). The French call such people "poseur," meaning that they are very obvious in their attempts to be something they're not. That's Bush.
