U.S. Middle East policy is too one-sided.
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 09:46 PM by Cascadian
This is NOT an anti-Israeli posting. Don't assume. Just think!

I think that one of the biggest problems with why many Arabs hate the U.S. is because it caters too much to Israel. If there was either a more balanced policy that treats Israel and the Arab states equal, then there would not be that much of a problem. If we didn't send troops into Saudi Arabia, I don't think bin Laden would bother us too much.

For years, even before the creation of Israel, the Arabs looked highly on America. They may have thought of us as naive but they weren't so keen to kill Americans. How many Arabs killed Americans before 1948 in terrorist attacks? The hostility has increased particularly under the Bush administration and it's all too bias towards Ariel Sharon's right-wing regime in Israel. Both men seem to be hell bent on hastening Armegeddon on Earth. Let's not forget that Ariel Sharon has a track record of atrocities on thousands of Palestinians.

In 1993, I had a lot of hope that things would get better in the Middle East. President Clinton, Yasser Arafat, and the late great Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin got together to bring Israelis and Palesintinians together. It was a triumph, Now fast forward to 2003. What has happened? Israel has had more terrorist attacks on it's soil than it had when Rabin was in power. I honestly think Sharon either had a hand in Rabin's assassination or knew of it beforehand. Yasser Arafat went from being a peacemaker back to a "terrorist" again. Clinton was replaced by some ultra right-wing half-wit who stole the 2000 election. Now this half-wit and Israeli fascist Sharon are setting the agenda in the region, inflamming anger among Arabs and pushing them into joining these Islamist fringe groups like Hamas and Al Qaeda willing to die for Allah. Who of logic and of sound mind can support what these two men are doing?

I propose is this. The U.S. should not only to the pro-Israeli lobby. They should start listening to the Arab states including Palestine thus ensuring a balance.

America as a whole should practice what it preaches which it hasn't done for a long time. The Middle East policy would be a good start.

2. I can't say that the US is fair to either the Arabs or Israel
The US promotes a preemptive war strategy, yet it chastized the Israelis when they go after perceived terrorists.

I don't even want to get into it's uneveness in it's overall sentimental support towards Israel and the terrorists in the Likud party!

3. I'm confused by the terms "Anti-America," "Anti-Israel"
why are these the only two countries that seem to enjoy this phenomenon?

Nobody ever screams about their enemies being "Anti-German"...

5. Maybe if the US stopped supplying Israel with the latest Weaponry
How can the PA compete with the tanks, aircraft and $$$ that the US gives to the Israelis?

How did the Colonies compete with Great Britain in the revolution? They did hit and run attacks and killed tax collectors, tories (collaborators with the british).

This is their revolution. Of course the US won't listen...because then the Israelis would buy their weapons from Germany or even Russia. And the US won't do that.

And the US wants to keep its oil so it tells Israel to stop its preemptive attacks.

10. Thank you!
The guy has a Nobel for pete's sake! He's done his best and sure he's losing it a bit now. But you gotta remember he was behind a peace accord or two and the savages in the Likud blew things out of the water.

Now they're trying to look civilized...but it's too late!

7. I believe we should start to negotiate now
However, no settlement should be reached until a cessation of terrorism. They have tried terrorism for years; when will they realize their strategy of killing 15 year olds at discos has been immoral, and a miserable failure?

but.....I think as long as Israel destroys homes and murders Palesintians, then maybe we should not talk to Israel.

13. AIPAC
Have either of the major parties ever made a vertiable stand against AIPAC?

Our policy regarding the I/P affair will be unbalanced as long as the Israeli lobby is infinately more powerful than the Arab lobby.
