This is NOT an anti-Israeli posting. Don't assume. Just think!
I think that one of the biggest problems with why many Arabs hate the U.S. is because it caters too much to Israel. If there was either a more balanced policy that treats Israel and the Arab states equal, then there would not be that much of a problem. If we didn't send troops into Saudi Arabia, I don't think bin Laden would bother us too much.
For years, even before the creation of Israel, the Arabs looked highly on America. They may have thought of us as naive but they weren't so keen to kill Americans. How many Arabs killed Americans before 1948 in terrorist attacks? The hostility has increased particularly under the Bush administration and it's all too bias towards Ariel Sharon's right-wing regime in Israel. Both men seem to be hell bent on hastening Armegeddon on Earth. Let's not forget that Ariel Sharon has a track record of atrocities on thousands of Palestinians.
In 1993, I had a lot of hope that things would get better in the Middle East. President Clinton, Yasser Arafat, and the late great Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin got together to bring Israelis and Palesintinians together. It was a triumph, Now fast forward to 2003. What has happened? Israel has had more terrorist attacks on it's soil than it had when Rabin was in power. I honestly think Sharon either had a hand in Rabin's assassination or knew of it beforehand. Yasser Arafat went from being a peacemaker back to a "terrorist" again. Clinton was replaced by some ultra right-wing half-wit who stole the 2000 election. Now this half-wit and Israeli fascist Sharon are setting the agenda in the region, inflamming anger among Arabs and pushing them into joining these Islamist fringe groups like Hamas and Al Qaeda willing to die for Allah. Who of logic and of sound mind can support what these two men are doing?
I propose is this. The U.S. should not only to the pro-Israeli lobby. They should start listening to the Arab states including Palestine thus ensuring a balance.
America as a whole should practice what it preaches which it hasn't done for a long time. The Middle East policy would be a good start.
