If Saddam is found guilty of crimes against humanity, will the US
be found guilty of being an accomplise? It was the Reagan administration who allowed him to buy our chemical weapons, was it not?

1. Good point...
It should not be the US itself but those who prepetrated it. I'm very sure if there was a popular vote on whether we should sell deadly weapons to a dictator... it would fail.

2. I heard someone on Pacifica tonight....
I think it was Larry Everest... he said that the entire "ruling class" of the United States should be on trial for war crimes along with Saddam.

To think just a couple years ago, I was blissfully ingnorant of the blood on our hands.

9. The U.S. also provided the location of the Iranians via satellite.
so that the chemical warheads on the missiles found its mark.

11. not only watched, but helped coordinate chemical weapons attacks!
the Reagan Administration provided information to help Iraq use chemical weapons:

According to the Washington Post, the CIA began in 1984 secretly to give Iraq intelligence that Iraq uses to "calibrate" its mustard gas attacks on Iranian troops.
(citing Bob Woodward, "CIA Aiding Iraq in Gulf War; Target Data From U.S. Satellites Supplied for Nearly 2 Years," Washington Post, 15 December 1986.)

6. Nope
He'll be found guilty of crimes against the Iraqi people and the US won't be part of the evidence at all. Americans always tend to put ourselves at the top of every story and event. I think the Iraqis will have more important things to charge Saddam with -- the murder of so many of their countrymen and the looting of the nation's treasury.

7. yeah...
Yeah. Which is why I wish he was being tried at The Hague, where there might actually be a slight chance of it all coming out. Not that most informed people don't know about it already... but either a lot of people aren't informed, or they don't care.

5. That slobbering idiot Reagan gave WMDs to Iraq
He should be tried as well. Don't feel sorry for that old fart! We have tracked down and prosecuted Nazi war criminals that were senile. This is the same thing!

8. This is a very good question.
In the end it will be blamed on France or Germany. That being said...the culture in America is one of pseudo responsiblity...in as much as we like to preach responsibility but when it all boils down we hire a lawyer and sue someone over our own stupidity...

Yes, we sold him the goods but we didn't hold a gun to his head to make him use them will be the claim...
