Faux News also in on reading cherry-picked forum postings
This seems to be some new tactic, to cherrypick remarks trying to make Democrats look "un-American" and rooting against success. Brit Hume was reading blog remarks from democrats.org on his show today, including one that said if Bush catches UBL, the Democrats are sunk... How are unverifiable blog comments, who could be from republicans trying to undermine things, considered news?

2. yeah, I just saw that too
Fascinating. What a goofy tactic! Unbelievable that message board postings are now news... it would be fun to read FR messages on liberal shows, but err... we don't really have any.

BRITT HUME: "For more views on Iraq, we turn to the internet... according to WarezD00d, Star Wars is far superior to Star Trek because quote lightsabers are boss endquote. And that's the news, fair and balanced."

5. Good lord!
But if you noticed, none of this didn't start until when Freakrepublic was accused by some magazine or radio station as a hate site. I think the freepers freeped these organizations suggesting them to take a look at our website. Their website really is a hate site. Their posts proves it.

8. can you imagine the tables turned
and having some newscaster read republican posters spewing racism, "nuking the middle east", etc... Shit, they can't even report it when when Trent Lott wants to "mow the whole place down" in Iraq, let alone an anonymous poster.

10. So where's OUR "news network", doing the same with freeper threads?
Oh that's right. We don't have a cable "news" network.

Too bad. Cause that makes us losers.

Our biggest enemy: the Media.

11. In the short term, it's going to be a pain in the ass...
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 01:26 AM by alg0912
...with the influx of disruptors and DOS attacks. In the long term, however, we might attract lots of new members - members who will donate and contribute and vote Democratic. This is the best publicity DU has gotten since the Today Show window appearance on DU's opening day, 1/20/01.

Sure, 98% of Rush's listeners aren't the type who are likely to stay, but the other 2% might...

Let 'em squawk - as long as they spell our URL right! :hi:

13. Brit Hume is a smarmy git
Every night Fred Barnes and his Nazi pals, like corpse-like Krauthammer to Nazi Party operative Fred Barnes gang up on the NPR lady.

Sometimes that delusional freak Carl Limbacher or his demonic familier Chris Ruddy is on.

14. Brit's a Sociopathic Liar
As he smarmily spews these lying words every day: "Fair, balanced". Enough said that he was endorsed by the schmuck Bernie GOLDDIGGER, uh, GOLDBERG, who said of the COLD Britster, "There's NOTHING WRONG with Brit." Consider THAT source.

Meanwhile, hi, LIMBOsevic:

15. What's the purpose of Limbaugh, FOX News, etc criticizing DU and....
other left wing Internet sites? Do they feel threatened? Are they trying to shut us up. True, they pick and choose the most absurd posts to present to their listeners over the air, some of which are probably planted by them or their supporters, in an attempt to discredit everything on the "left".

Should we just ignore them? Or should we post threads that they might "enjoy" once they are told about our website on the radio or TV, or the newspaper in the case of the WSJ. Maybe we should let them know that if they mention our address in such a critical and biased manner, when their listeners come to visit, they will not be disappointed. We will tell the truth about them that no one else in the media seems to want to do. We are not intimidated. Send them on in. We will do our best to have some appropriate information for them to take away.

16. what i find amusing
are the new people who come in and post something REALLY inflamatory - like the 'Free Saddam' post yesterday. It's obviously a plant - and it gets locked in 2 seconds - but that wont stop Faux from reading it on the air.

Manufactured consent my friends...

17. I hate to say I warned you.
I'm not a "member" so I can't do a search, but anyone can verify that I warned about this trend months ago. The whole thing was supposed to be part of John Gibson's program (so I was told). I've got nerdy friends in very low places (people who get to read and/or edit blast faxes). Using messageboards is a "plan" that has been in place for awhile. The point behind it: to get the mouth-breathers fired up; to show non-political junkies what the left is like; to associate the left with the democrats (and now especially Dean, who has been linked to the internet--please don't think the fact that Fox and others have emphasized this is a coincidence or a compliment). In fact, watch as they really start quoting things from candidates' message boards. It's all supposed to be a distraction, and the dems. are supposed to condemn it. When the dems. don't condemn it, it proves that they are "bush-haters" (like Dean not condemning the comedians who did all of the "crude" bush jokes). The whole thing is quite silly, but it's aimed at about 3% of the population (the political-show junkie), 2.95% of which have sloped foreheads.

18. Some posts quoted seem to be by regular posters here.
This poster is one example of a post that was picked up by the Wall Street Journal. She is listed at 1000+ posts, and her profile shows over 1200 posts. Many other DU posts (though not all) quoted by right-wingers show a record of hundreds of posts here. If these are Republican "plants," they are enthusiastic and persistent ones.

21. Enthusiastic and persistent? Yes.
But really, it isn't tough to go to any message board and find extreme posts.

It's also very cheap, in more ways than one.

24. I find absolutely nothing wrong with the post
It is an honest post describing their fear that America is being manipulated. I'm glad they ran with such a post as it is at least honest. That is something the WSJ cannot claim to be.

20. Fight fire with fire
If the Right wants to get into a "who's base is more extreme" battle, I'm game. Let's start directing media outlets to Free Republic and Lucianne.com and see what they find. Hahaha!!

How about gems like this:
"I swear to god the blacks want a damn race war! People are getting fed up!!"

or

"If these godless Mulims keep hurting our troops, we'll nuke the whole damn country. Let Allah sort'em out!!"

or
"I can't wait til Republicans get a super-majority so we can start building the gulags and concentration camps for all theses leftist traitors."

Bring it on, Fox!!

22. Cool, more free advertising
Even negative press is better than no press. SO BRING EM ON. Once people get here they will see for themselves what is really going on. As for the bogus posts, if there wasn't any crap for the fanatics to point out for their sampling, then they would make some up. Either way, regular folks are starting to see through their bullshit and the more they try to bs people, the better, it makes it so much easier to make our case that Brit and his ilk are full of shit.

23. with lexis nexis i could make it look like bush killed the Lindbergh baby
the subjective use of cut and paste journalism is an anathema to objective reporting.

elevating the comments of a single, or even a few anonymous internet users to a prima fascia evidence of democratic party supporter despair is dishonest.

apparently this stuff, or at least its impact on the public mind wont stop usless the fairness doctrine is reinstituted.
