What would happen if we pulled out of Iraq?
Its Bush's fault for getting us into this mess in the first place just so ChevronTexaco can get a few billion barrels of oil for a lower price.

But just because Bush is profiting and the repukes want to stay in Iraq would it necessarily be good to pull out?

If we pulled out what are the chances that the seperate Iraqi tribes would attack each other?

What are the chances that a neighbour like Iran would invade and ethnically cleanse most of the Iraqis?

I wouldnt like it if Mexico was allowed to invade the USA.

What is the progress with the Iraqi army?

The Iraqis are complaining that they are not being given the opportunity to rebuild their own country which I agree with, we should just be there to protect them against invasion til they have their own army.

1. The main complaint seems to be lack of security and electricity
I don't see how either situation would be improved by the US pulling out. If the UN was willing to commit enough resources to rebuild Iraq, that would be another thing. But it would be foolish to leave a vaccuum there.

2. We need to allow the UN to take over .
It would be a disaster if we just pulled out and left the Iraqi people in a power vacumn. And it would be a ripe opportunity for al Qaeda to take up residence there. Wouldn't that be cute. The US kicks out Saddam, so that Osama can have a new place to base his operations?

3. Get the UN involved
Get the rival factions at the table with the UN as mediator and active, non-partisan participant in the restoration of the country.

4. here is what we need to do...
obviously a just an up and go withdrawal would leave a power vaccuum and the country would be in even more chaos than it is now... i really don't think anyone is advocating a withdraw.... what IS being advocated is a transitioning to a UN administration... with UN peacekeepers from all over... majority from muslim or arab countries. anyone who says the UN can't do it... look at what they have done in Cambodia! Compared to what Cambodia looked like when the UN went in there, holy shiite! and we can get international troops in there if we have a UN mandate.

5. We should not pull out...
It would be chaos. We struck so we should be responsible for the Iraqi's long term future. Bush signed the receipt and we must pay his bill.

However, the effort should be Internationalized and Bush should be impeached for destabilizing the Middle-East for profit and revenge.

6. Corporations in Iraq should hire their own military
If they insist on reaping the benefits, they should
pay for the protection.

Bring 'em home.

7. The Dem candidate's foreign policy rallying cry should be
"I'll clean up the mess that Bush made". Reasonable people will realize that any Dem stands a far greater chance of mending foreign relations and handing responsibility for Iraq security over to the U.N.

As for the rest of them, repeat it often enough and they'll start to believe it.

8. Easy one..
The Islamic Republic of Iraq would be "born".. Women would retreat further into the background.. They would be a mini-Iran..

It may actually be what they WANT.. Is it our place to tell them what's "good for them"??

The middle east has NEVER had a true democracy EVER..EVER..EVER.. and the states surrounding Iraq, do NOT want them to be the FIRST.. They will fight us with everything they have.. It's an impossibility..

We can "make" them a democracy like we did Afghanistan (insert laugh track here)...but ISLAM will prevail in the end..

This "war"..as much as they like to poo-poo it, IS about Islam versus the rest of the world..

We can either find a way to co-exist with these people who have so many different ideas and ideals, or we can fight them FOREVER..

No matter how many radio broadcasts and school books we deliver to them, they will always be inifluenced more by Islam.. Our leaders over the years have made little or no effort to understand these cultures and now we are paying the price in money and blood..

What's the solution??? Guess what?? there may not BE one..:(

12.  Islam and democracy._can_ go together.
Case 1. Turkey
Case 2. Indonesia (world's most populous Muslim country)
Case 3. India (has the world's second largest population of Muslims,
I think)
Case 4. U.S., Canada, etc.--western countries with growing numbers
of Muslim citizens)

Granted, the first three countries' democracies may have some big flaws, but they do exist as democracies and with very little threat of being ruled by Mullahs or Islamic religious law.

(U.S. etc. have flaws in their democracies too but not much related to this topic)

9. The same thing that will happen when we are RUN out of Iraq
Fundamentalist Islamic cleric will take over.

That's why we installed Saddam 30 years ago...to make sure we had a repressive non-islamic dictator to keep the oil flowing.

10. My idea...
Convoke an emergency meeting of Kurdish, communist, republican, monarchist, Islamist political parties and get a pledge to mutually respect multi-party elections, a minimum program for women and national minority rights, and then schedule elections. And get out, out, out! This has been a mistake, and there is no way to right it through further impingement on Iraq's sovereignty. It should not be a UN protectorate. I say no to colonialism under any banner.

11. like Vietnam, just DISCUSS it for years...and THEN evacuate...
for 14 years, congress DISCUSSED what might happen if we left Vietnam, which sound the same as our current Iraq discussion (we would be humiliated, there would be chaos, the "communists" would rule the world....same kinds of stuff)...and every day, OUR soldiers were maimed and killed...14 year of discussion !

the long, long Vietnam discussions made no difference at all to the ending of another bloody American insanity....it ended in chaos anyways...here's the photo of people scrambling for their lives, to get to the last helicopters on the roof of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, with wild shooting going on, two more U.S. solders were killed during this last day evacuation....real chaotic...

it's very easy to leave Iraq, and bush* can DO IT TODAY...pick up the phone, and order the whole war to be shut down, and OUR troops to be BROUGHT HOME NOW !!!!!
