Anyone being paid by a campaign should reveal that
I think it's fair for anyone being paid by
one of the Presidential campaigns should
note that fact in their sig line. At least
we'll know when we're being lobbied by
a professional....

5. I'm not paid by any campaign
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 09:58 AM by 56kid
but I don't think it's anybody's business if I was being paid by one.

I don't care if someone whose ideas I'm reading on this board has been or not and I don't need to know if they are or not. I'll judge the ideas on the merits, period.

I think it is very dangerous to go the direction of requesting (on edit: maybe the word I'm looking for is "requiring" not "requesting" -- but even requesting this is a slippery slope to requiring) the writers on this board to reveal their affiliations in this way.

14. That's fine with me
I have no problem with that.
I understand why you feel the way you do also. You'd like to know!
I wouldn't mind knowing if someone is being paid by a campaign, to be honest. It's just that I don't feel any pressing need to know.

& it makes me a little nervous.

Maybe, I haven't been around long enough on the board to know for sure, but I just don't understand why it is necessary to know this about the posters. I think that their opinions are what are relevant, not the underlying causative forces of their opinions. It seems too much like "calling someone out" to me and could result in not listening to the opinion at the least or at the worst, it could result in some kind of hierarchy of good DUers and bad DUers based on whether they were "pure" (unaffiliated).

Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 10:20 AM by Bozola
Sorry, no. What's important is not *who* they are, but *what* they say.

It's pretty obvious when someone has an agenda.

22. Junior High School History book.
Los Angeles, 1978.

Gee, the guy who assassinated Duke Ferdinand of Austria in 1914 was described as a 'Anarchist' (he wasn't, he was a Serbian Nationalist); would he be described as a 'Terrorist' nowadays?

18. If there are paid campaigners, they should disclose that fact.
If there are unpaid interns working on campaigns, they should probably disclose that fact, too. If we are to keep this an honest forum, it makes sense.

26. Also: people who are in close contact with the candidate
should reveal that as well. For instance, somebody who is pushing hard for Kerry and who is also somewhat close to Kerry, to the point that it is likely he/she would get some personal career advantage by supporting him (if he gets to the White House), should reveal that. Obviously, pro-Kerry arguments by this person would be less credible than arguments by people who are not so close.

34. I don't think it makes any difference
Who cares. If someone working for a campaign contributes to this board, so be it.

You can agree or disagree with their dialogue like anybody else.

How would it be any different if it's a paid campaign person vs. an unpaid grassroots volunteer? Both usually have the same information and share issue statements and talking points at meetings?
