I've got Drudge & Bush-lovers RILED UP
Drudge today posted an idiotic story about how Clark and Moveon.org are actively seeking foreigners to give them money. (http://www.drudgereport.com/mattmo.htm ...sensationalist much?)

All because my site at one point (not any more) asked Canadians to donate to MoveOn.org, which before their new restrictions came into place, was apparently perfectly acceptable.

Now I've got reporters emailing me for an interview, and I just got 200 "Canada is socialist" and "Why are you trying to destroy America??!!" emails in just the past few hours.

I'm in a state of shock. Never thought my little, useless site would have this kind of attention.

Did I do something wrong? Did I just unintentionally help smear Clark (even though Mr. Drudge is totally overexaggerating things)? And was it illegal of me to ask for Canadians to donate to Moveon.org? Because thats the overall gist of what the "go to hell you Canadian commie!!" emails are telling me.

Anyway I'm going to distance myself from this for the time being. I just got off my last exam, and now this??!! Maybe I should stop trying to get involved..

1. well, look at it this way
now that Drudge is carrying it, i'm sure that most of the contributions to moveon.org from canadians will be brought in through his exposure. I'm sure they'll thank him.

If Accenture (a bermuda company) can donate to political candidates, then why the hell can't canadian citizens donate to non-affiliated action committees?

Drudge is an ass.

2. Thank you Canada!
The people sending you hate mail probably just can't imagine themselves being so interested and involved in another country's political affairs!

If it makes you feel any better.....we are probably moving to Canada if Bush gets four more years :)

Keep up the good work and try to ignore the freepers. There's no reasoning with them. (I just had the most frustrating hour-long debate with my freeper mother last night and I vowed never to get lured into a political discussion with her again. We are so polarized and she is so ignorant and NOT a critical thinker at all, she just gets mad when I back up my opinions with facts, FACTS! Something she doesn't have because she gets told what to think by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. We will never agree so it's just totally pointless. Just creates hard feelings.)

3. There were two Swedish students who were asking everyone in the EU
to give $1 to MoveOn.org towards the (re)defeat of * but I believe that has been suspended.

4. The thing is, moveon.org wouldnt even accept non-American donations.
I just failed to take the link off my site, after learning about moveon's new policy a week or so ago.

So this story has been TOTALLY blown out of proportion. Even if Canadians had tried to donate, they COULDN'T, because the Moveon.org donation page wouldn't let them.

Now I know how the rightwing media operate. Sensationalism, lies, complete overexaggeration. Its one thing to notice it, but its another when you're directly hurt by it.

5. Hang in there, don't quit!
This just shows how desperate they are, there is no truth in what they are saying. There is nothing illegal about having a site supporting Clark as long as you aren't soliciting campaign money and you aren't. Moveon.org isn't collecting money outside of the US to use in their anti-Bush ads, etc.

This is just another pathetic attempt to silence anyone, especially moveon.org, from speaking out.
