Is Dean really suffering from the Saddam Capture?
I know that Dean may not have quite as good a chance as he did before, however he still leads nationally, and the fact that other Dems are attacking him still has not changed. They were always attacking him and I don't think that it has really intensified, and the grassroots movement still seems to be in full swing and he is still moving along. I don't know if he would win next November or if he gets nominated, but if he gets nominated, I still hope that he beats Bush and Diebold.

1. That's funny
I just posted something to the same effect basically, although I applied it more to Bush. I am just not seeing how this changes anything in any sort of permanent or dramatic fashion. If anything, the Bushies have done themselves a disservice in removing the bogeyman uopn whom they could have blamed all the attacks on our troops, or blamed for whatever else they wanted.

2. Not much against the other dems.
It's the theoretical dem nominee who has lost ground. It's really meaningless at this points. There are primaries, debates, and all kinds of challenges for the "president" to face between now and Nov. ' 04.

At least Bush will have something to replaced the now-useless "mission accomplished" footage in his campaign ads.

4. The effect, if any,
is very short term

Look... the effect will only last until the next massive attack against US Troops...

I don't wish for it to happen but it will... and when it does, well
the Goldstein of Iraq is gone, so who will bush blame?

5. this is one of the biggest myths of the campaign
that Dean will suffer just because Saddam is captured. Saddam's capture as I see it really hasn't changed anything. Bush and the Iraqis agree that risks continue. It doesn't appear that Saddam was calling the shots while he was on the lam. It is a propaganda victory and nothing more. The country is in chaos and our troops are still in harms way.

If anything it might help Dean by making Iraq a top and center issue again and making our Iraqi policy and the lies which led to the war top issues again.

Finally, Dean is more than a one-issue candidate.

6. The only way I could see it really hurting Dean
is if his position had been "We will never capture Saddam Hussein! Vote for me!"

I just didn't interpret it that way, myself.

7. Repubs SUCCESSFULLY spun that Dems are in trouble.
Both David Letterman and Jay Leno had jokes saying that the only people unhappy that Saddam was captured are...... drumroll... eight Dem candidates.

The mud has been thrown, and the stereotype has hereby been cast.

This was was built on Bush admin KNOWING Iraq had WMD, the admin DID NOT KNOW.

Doesn't matter if they catch Saddam, OSL, the anthrax mailer, Bush lied.
