Anyone Hear Kissinger on Diane Rehm This Morning?
Her radio show broadcasts from DC on WAMU, which also has a lot of public radio programming. I don't know if it's available elsewhere.

I've never had very strong feelings about DR her as a host, but my opinion of her just went up a notch today after her interview with Henry Kissinger.

In a very low-key way, she repeatedly brought up Chile, Pinochet, and the attempts by Spain to bring HK in for questioning. HK repeatedy dismissed the charges, said they were baseless, and that he had no involvement in the Allende coup and the charges were just being made up for political reasons.

Kissinger is notorious for going out of his way to avoid all questioning along these lines. Yet Rehm kept on going until Kissinger finally said something like: "Look, I was just serving my country and I shouldn't be criticized for that, even if some of my decisions were not the best." No home runs, but she kept the accusations alive. That's very important.

If anyone wants to hear a replay, it should be available later today or tomorrow at:

1. r.e. Diane Rehm
I believe that some guests have made the mistake of thinking Diane Rehm is a softball interview. Maybe it's her quavering voice, I don't know. But she can be relentless about getting her questions answered. Polite, but very persistent. I hope it gave the geriatric human rights abuser an ulcer.

2. Henry Seemed to be Taken Aback That She Kept Pursuing It
an eventually got a little testy. He continued to stonewall, but obviously prefers to just have all the questions go away.

Christopher Hitchens collected enough public material in The Trial of Henry Kissinger (based on theHarper's series) to show that Kissinger was deeply involved in the Allende coup.

Shame that he's still able to deny with a straight face, and that so many people believe him.
