The troops will not be coming home soon
If the invasion was really about deposing Saddam, then with the man behind bars the reason for staying in Iraq disappears. I know, the original reason was imminent attack with Ws-M-D, but no such weapons have been found and nor will they since we all know they never existed. The Bush administration knows this too, so the Iraq-WMD threat has gone down the memory hole, and there it will stay.

It could be argued that it will suit Bush to bring home the troops next year, especially a few months before the general election. But is that possible? If the troops were brought home, what about Iraq? Is it conceivable that Iraqis will be satisfied to be ruled by CPA stooges, who will privatise the whole of Iraq's economy and sell it to US corporations, replacing the tyranny of Hussein with US corporate tyranny instead? I consider that unlikely. And if Iraqis took advantage of their new liberation and overthrew their colonial masters to set up a government of their choosing, maybe Islamist, maybe not, but almost certainly one with different ideas of how Iraq should be run than Bush, do you think the Bush administration would celebrate Iraqis' new-found freedom, and let them? I hardly consider that likely either.

So somebody is going to have to stay in Iraq to enforce the CPA's will. I can't see who is capable of enforcing that other than the troops who are already there. So I can't see them coming home soon.

expanding the occupation will ONLY increase the SUFFERING on all sides.

even Randi Rhodes - http://www.therandirhodesshow.com - supports increasing the occupation - because hillary does

i really don't know why us libs wouldn't be pulling for getting our troops out and the UN in

it wont end till the iraqi people have a gov they support which i DOUBT will be one we install on the tip of a sword.

2. Right
I've heard it said that to withdraw now, with Iraq in the state it's in, would be worse than staying. But then when I hear that we're taking lessons from the IDF on how to put down a colonised population, I have to question that view. I say we should get out now, and let Iraqis do whatever they want with their country. Offer any help they may need via the UN, if they want it.

3. the only part i agree with the 'we made the mess' argument is...
that we should hold the neoCONs to their promise of installing a DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM in iraq :bounce:

but we can NOT do that by adding MORE troops or by maintaining our total control of the desicion making proccess.

we are reconstituting the notoriusly feared iraqi SECRET POLICE :puke:

the HYPOCRACY on BOTH SIDES of the isle needs to change.

we need to CONSTANTLY ask our GOV and MEDIA when are the iraqis gonna have a VOTE!

peace
