Bill Maher: "GWB reminds me of Paris Hilton"
he's on Larry King, talking about how provincial is our boysquatterking.

talking about how * bragged about being ignorant of foreign affairs, "a trait often looked upon not-unadmiringly in the US," as well as not reading the newspapers (like Paris Hilton, he said)

also said * was a man of "big ideas".......huh? what big ideas? getting out of serving in the TANG? what ideas has he ever had?

he also mentioned the 70% of Americans who think Saddam had something to do with 911, then compared it to our declaring war on Japan after Pearl Harbor, "instead of Spain."

1. now on to Dean
says popularity is because of the internet; mentions recent NYTimes article

now, since Saddam, he thinks the dems are in deep trouble, but that Kerry/Clark "have dibs" cause they're "warriors"

"thank god for ethanol".....good litmus test/Iowa; same with Cuba, talking about selling out for regional interests, in hopes of winning regionally (Iowa caucuses, seque to Cuba)

cites inability of dems to make hay of "banner year for Republican hypocrisy."

cites Limbaugh ("rampant hypocrisy-the worst hypocrisy there is; blows a hole in the idea that you can't work high"), Arnold, Thurmond, several other instances (forgot already)

well, gee, Bill, could it be the MEDIA won't repeat these stories unto death, as they did the blue dress, or Love Canal, Love Story, etc? could THAT be the reason, huh? could that be it, perhaps?

2. What a great line.
Bush doesn't read newspapers. Paris Hilton doesn't read newspapers. This is why he doesn't understand ferriners.

6. hah!
he even used that exact word a couple of times: furriners.

King repeated it quizzically when Maher said something about dumbo's disdain for/ignorance of furriners, and having not been out of the US before his pres campaign (that's wrong, I think, btw)

Maher emphasized the word in his reply, sequeing, I think, into the bit about his somewhat "proud" xenophobia.

context was that Dean disbelieved it was Saddam they caught.

It was.........Santa!

they then superimposed a Santa hat/beard on one of the ubiquitous post-capture photos

8. maher now waxes supremely ignorant, re: US imperialism
great call from older lady who asked why the hell we were there in the first place, and is this a precursor to a US empire.

Maher, quoting Powell, said the ONLY land we ever wanted/tried to get overseas was "a place to bury our war dead!!!!"

uhhhhh, just for starters, do you know about that little isthmussy place in Colombia? you know, that place we TOOK, and from which, created our own country, so we could have our own personal ditch, connecting the Caribbean to the Pacific.

no time for the other examples (Philippines, anyone?)

another caller: if you got stuck in an elevator, who'd you like to be in there with.

Maher: Paris Hilton and GWB, cause I'd like to tell them a few things that have been going on in the paper lately
