Bob Kerry on NPR, this morning
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 11:12 AM by G_j
I think it was Bob Edwards interviewing him. Edwards attempted to read into the discussion that Dean was bad for the Democrats. Kerry responded with a great statement that on the contrary, Dean was very good for the party, that people out there really are upset and need the Dems to voice their outrage. (my paraphrase)

16. Why are there two different Spellings?
I still think they are different people. It doesn't help matters that both are from Nebraska.
Bob Kerry is also a Viet Nam Vet who admitted to killing civilians in the war. If you Google that name you find mostly references to this. Google Kerrey and references to the NYC college come up.

You are the only one referring to Bob Kerrey as Kerry.

See New School president's page about Bob Kerrey . . .

http://www.newschool.edu/admin/pres/index.html

See NPR Morning Edition page describing Bob Edwards interview with Bob Kerrey . . .

http://www.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.php?prgDate=18-Dec-2003&prgId=3

"NPR's Bob Edwards talks with former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey about "Progressive Internationalism," a set of guidelines intended to redefine Democratic foreign policy."

Again, not to be harsh but the only confusion here is yours.

21. You are right, both spellings
can be found in many different places.
If I was more familiar with Nebraska I might have known. Good to have that cleared up..

2. I agree with him
Whether Dean gets the Nomination or not doesn't change the fact that people like what he has to say. People need to hear it. Not everything is Rosy like some Democrats pretend. America needs the pot to be stirred.

14. bio of Sen Bob Kerrey
http://www.newschool.edu/admin/pres/pres_bio.html

Bob Kerrey is President of New School University in New York City.

* * * *

For twelve years prior to becoming President of New School University, Bob Kerrey represented the State of Nebraska in the United States Senate. Before that he served as Nebraska's Governor for four years.

Educated in pharmacy at the University of Nebraska, Bob Kerrey served three years in the United States Navy. After his military service, he started a chain of restaurants and health clubs in Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas.

Bob Kerrey entered the race for Governor of Nebraska with no prior political experience and was elected as a Democrat in a heavily Republican State. After serving a single four-year term, he returned to business.

Upon the death of Nebraska's senior United States Senator, Kerrey became a candidate for the U.S. Senate. He was elected in 1988 and re-elected in 1994. He chose not to run for re-election a third time because of the offer to be President of New School University and his desire to return to private life.

22. NO -- There is ONE guy named BOB KERREY
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 12:58 PM by liberalpragmatist
The BBC's got it wrong. Of course, there's John Kerry, but, trust me, there is no former senator from nebraska named "Bob KERRY" -- just Bob K-E-R-R-E-Y -- he's the same guy that you're refering to.

If you want to confirm it go to bioguide.congress.gov and do a search for kerry, senator, nebraska -- you'll get nothing. Do kerrEy, senator, nebraska, and yes, you'll get the guy you're talking abt.

4. I heard that on the way to work this morning.
I believe Bob Edwards said that Dean comments might be destructive to the Democratic party. Kerry said he believed just the opposite, that Dean was right to point out the short comings of the administration.

12. Sen Bob Kerrey
Did really well in not taking Bob Edwards bait. He said Dean movement as a voice for the upset was really good for Democrats and he even sua sponte mentioned Kucinich as likewise being helpful. I guess Sen Bob Kerrey didn't get the memo about not mentioning Kucinich on NPR unless comments are belittling or express puzzlement.

You can listen to it here.
