CBS news reports terror level may go up from yellow to orange
How can anyone argue that the war in Iraq made us safer if the terrorist level goes up?
Shouldn't the terror level go down? (rhetorical question)

1. They won't ever raise it again.
That was all part of the pre-Iraq fear strategy.

:eyes: I know it's redundant but I *hate* that BS terra alert system.

And like it's not enough to have the colors actually change from "live somewhat in fear" to "live totally in fear" -- we also have the media getting us to fear the possibility of the fear level increasing. BAH HUMBUG!

3. Well, normally, yes
But the terror level has to go up.

The reason is because the head of the 9/11 comittee has recently said that the 9/11 attacks could and should have been prevented.

Therefore, in order to prove to the public that the administration is not soft on terrorism, and to send them back into a paranoid frenzy until they are too worried to care that Bush let 9/11 happen, the terror level must be raised.

5. B-b-but we caught Osama...I mean, Saddam!
If I weren't such a good patriotic American, I might think these terror alerts are completely disconnected from the real threat of terror, and that the Bush administration just manipulates these alerts for purely political purposes!

6. I fell for it once I won't again
During one of the first increases from yellow to orange, I was home alone with my invalid mother and two children. This was the alert to buy duct tape and tarps to seal yourself in a basement. My husband was away on a business trip overseas. Fact No. 1 our road is impassable in the early spring. Fact 2. all of our toilet issues are dependent on electricty. Fact. 3. We are in the direct wind from NY for any airborne attack. I was truly scared. I bought the food, water, set up the toilet provisions and ways to get my mother into the cellar. I did as much as I could to ensure the safety of the animals. As head of the household I had to make sure every one was taken care of and I was truly scared. The one thing that was missing from all of this was the government telling me that they would do every thing they could to take care of me. Never heard it. And...never will from this adminstration. I am still mad that they used this tactic to scare people, it isn't fair to children or invalids. I frankly find it sickening.

9. How is "may go up" news?
I am so tired of supposed news organizations reporting "facts" that are completely couched in hypotheticals, like "may go up," "suspected ties," etc., along with the sources being described as "an unnamed spokesman," "an administration official who declined to be identified," etc. It is completely contentless "news."

What does "terror level may go up" offer the viewer? As far as I can tell, no information, just a little dose of anxiety.

And now they're (Al Ka-Eeda) supposed to be targetting us in out homes? Oh, wait a minute, somebody's at the door, hope it's Osama and not Arschloch....Osama I might be able to reason with...

No, it was worse! Jay-Dubbyas!

10. Should Dean make this argument if it does?
Dean got bashed by saying that the capture of Saddam won't make America safer. If the alert level went up to orange, then he can turn around and say to his critics that he was right, and even the Dept. of Homeland Security agreed with him.
