NC's onetime less than 3% Unemployment soars to 6.2%! And, the Online
version of this article doesn't even address how bad it is which the "print version" (which I'm a subscriber to) does! It's bad! NC was a stellar mover in the jobs and housing gains in the last half of Clinton. Now we are ranked with "Alaska" for job loss. (only in the Print version)

Here's the online "scrubbed version."

The Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose a tenth of a percent to 6.2 percent in November, but more people had jobs than last year, the state's Employment Security Commission said Friday.

The state's November unemployment rose from 6.1 percent in October, marking the ninth time this year the state's jobless rate was higher than the national average. North Carolina's unemployment rate has only matched the national jobless rate in February and May.

The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in November, down from 6.0 percent in October.

"Total labor force and employment numbers increased somewhat over the month, while total unemployment also increased slightly," ESC chairman Harry E. Payne Jr. said.

Total employment in the state has grown by nearly 53,000 since November 2002, and unemployment has dropped by more than 17,000 during the same period. That shows "North Carolina is seeing a much improved employment situation from this time last year," Payne said.

Total seasonally adjusted employment was 3,934,852 in November, an increase of 4,450 since October. The seasonally adjusted figure for people without work but looking was 258,015, an increase of 4,372 from October.

Construction companies added 3,200 jobs between October and November, there were 3,800 more jobs in the hospitality industry, and an extra 3,600 jobs in education and Health Services were added.

Manufacturers cut 2,700 jobs from October to November.

1. I guess I should stop
thinking about moving to NC to look for work when I lose my job here in WV.
