1. I don't know, I'm nervous
about my husband going into the city today.

Then again, I'm a neurotic whose free-floating anxiety is always in search of a new host.

3. I'm totally horrified.
I live every day in constant fear of terrorist attack. I'm so glad we have a president that will deal with it, but being afraid is the right thing to do if you're a good American. That's what the president wants, so it's your patriotic duty. Drink your Kool-Aid.

6. What are they going to do when nothing happens....AGAIN.....
And nothing is going to happen.....

Not a chance.....

The threat level elevations became so transparent to some if us long ago.....

Everything these people do seems like it is executed and carried out according to a script.....

Maybe I'm being too cynical, but when I see things like this all over the news, I absolutely ignore it, because it is of zero usefullness and relevance.....

The thing we should beasking ourselves is not "What is the possible threat", but "What are they trying to distract us from?...." I don't beleive a word of what they say, and this "Threat Level Elevation" is about as relevant as a Betamax machine.....

These people don't even cry wolf.....

There is nothing to cry wolf about.....

My advice to everyone is enjoy your Holiday.....

And for God Sakes don't put Duct Tape in anyone's stocking this year..... :)

18. That's good to see
What a change from when Americans were running out to the Home Depots and Lowe's for the plastic sheeting and duct tape! The stores were all sold out right after the new "protect your family by sealing the windows and doors" plan was on the TV.

It's good to see people aren't quite so trusting about this manipulative crap anymore.

19. Two things that trouble me about the terror alerts...
First, I guess it's natural that these alerts come at holiday seasons because so many of us are traveling and with large crowds it becomes more difficult and time consuming to screen people who are getting on airplanes. At the same time, as we get together with family, we are reminded by these alerts that those nearest and dearest to us could be gone in a heartbeat if not for our brave and courageous pResident who is protecting us from terrorist fiends. (NOT!)

The second thing that bothers me is that with all the alerts we are not being told what WE can do. On morning TV today, what I heard was just that all Americans were advised to go about business as usual but to be alert and watchful, or words to that effect. That's about as vague and useless as it gets, IMO. Alert to what? Watchful to see what? No one is really sure. In Israel, people have gas masks. They know to tape windows so that if they break they won't shatter and pieces of glass go flying around. They know to put mattresses up around the walls of a room where they will gather in case of an attack, and they know not to pick up any backpack or large purse they might find in a public place that looks as if someone inadvertently put it down and then forgot it because it might contain a bomb of some sort. Those are just a few examples, but what have Americans been told to do? Nothing but business as usual, but be alert. The other message that comes out unspoken but sort of hand in hand with this first is that the government has things covered. Depend on the government to protect you. Obey the government and you will be safe. That message is disempowering, at least IMO. Give people something specific to do, no matter how insignificant it may actually be (not tape windows and limit the oxygen in the room though), and people feel that they are in control at least a little. Tell them to depend on the FBIs or the government or whomever and you encourage sheep-hood and dependency. Frankly, with the lousy record it has after 9/11, I really don't trust the government to take care of me at all.

23. These things have one purpose: Monopolize media attention.
And in the process convince some idiots that they are really doing something about terraism.

Without any specific information they are utterly meaningless.

24. Poll changed:
Do you find the terror alert system helpful? SIXTY-FOUR percent are saying NO.

Guess they didn't like the previous poll results, so they changed it.
