1. I wouldn't make anything out of it.
They wanted to make sure it was Hussein and not one of his doubles before breaking the news.

Since then (and I know a relative of one of the men in the unit) they've talked.

they are being told to shut up...

after being told the official story to stick with...

oops! cnn wasn't supposed to pick THAT up! it's obvious these troops never had anything to do with the capture, it was a special ops raid outside the purview of the regular military. and they didn't want it to get out that kurds and ONLY US special ops were involved.

3. Regular soldiers
were used to cordon off the area up to 2 km away from the hut. The idea is to cut off escape routes before going in. Therefore most of the soldiers who took part in the raid never got near the hut and certainly never saw any spider hole. The actual search was probably done by special forces.
