Anyone read Alan Colmes' book "Red, White, and Liberal?"
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 08:41 PM by wyldwolf
Barnes and Noble had it at 50% off last night so I picked it.

Any thoughts?

4. it is practically a NEW, NEW TESTAMENT
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 08:42 PM by thebigidea
mark my words, a mighty church will rise from those words - wisdom that only one man can give us - the word is truly made flesh in that book, and we should all be grateful to have a great leader like Alan Colmes to dedicate our lives to. Truly, he passes the savings on to us. Forever and ever, Amen.

agh! Just contemplating his presence, his handsome profile - why - I'm HEALED! I can walk again! Colmes has made my broken bones whole, hosanna! Holy shit!

(I am practically miffed not a single person gave me a copy of this for Christmas. Nobody gave me the Colmes "Over to you, Sean" earwarmers, either. They have little speakers in them so Hannity can interrupt your thoughts.)

5. Here are two quick reviews of it by a couple of famous folks...
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 08:42 PM by wyldwolf
"Alan Colmes knows that facts and evidence count for more than ideological and personal attacks. He doesn't believe in turning issues into cartoons. That makes this his book a must-read for people all across the political spectrum. Whether you agree or disagree with his point of view, you'll learn a lot along the way."

--- William Jefferson Clinton

"Fed up with Limbaugh's tirades and other reactionary outbursts, here comes liberal Colmes fast with the facts, the evidence, the forgotten history, and a focused mind as if regular, unincorporated Americans matter!"

--- Ralph Nader

No fan of Colmes here, but hell, the book was cheap - and I like to read!

22. PW was pretty nice, in their "we didn't like it" way.
The liberal half of Hannity & Colmes breaks free of his cohost to deliver a blandly pious "can't we all just get along?" homily without interruption. Racism is bad, conservatives should stop being such bullies and antiwar protestors are Americans, too. Oh, and Fox News isn't really that conservative. But who'll buy it? As numerous excerpts from viewer e-mails reveal, Colmes's TV audience is largely hostile to him, while potential liberal readers are probably still chuckling over Al Franken's portrayal of him in Lies as a milquetoast. That he's nowhere near as funny (or energetic) as Franken or Michael Moore doesn't help.

I'm very curious as to the publisher. Can somebody clue me in (I'm at home or could find it myself in a heartbeat).

I read book reviews for a living. thebigidea, you'd be great at Kirkus Reviews.

7. I just know the NYDailyNews said Colmes and Goldberg's books
were at 50% off and that the publisher was giving credits so they didn't have to do large scale buy backs of the drivel. Maybe Alan can bundle his book in sets with Tammy ("a girl named") Bruce and Susie Estrich and any other "progressive" "democrat" who publishes a book that doesn't sell.

8. Let us know how you like it.
I can't see myself using my dollars to support a man who allows himself to be used to further the right wing agenda by being the designated liberal punching bag on a RW tv station. There are so many great books out right now by real fighters for liberalism, and I havn't yet been able to purchase all of those that I want to read.

If you report back that it's worth reading then I may consider checking it out from the library.

I'm undecided, and Colmes is such a LIBERAL that his endorsment would probably make my mind up for me.

11. Nah
Colmes isn't really very liberal seems to me. He's more like a liberal . If he ever grows a spine he owes Hannity a world class tongue-lashing.

Sorry Al, I had to borrow the concept :)

15. Like so...
use standard html code within brackets [] Inside the brackets goes font size=*size*, where the size is some number. Font size=1 is what I used above. This is font size=4. . I am explaining this awfully, check the link which is available when you are writing a post, above the window, which says html lookup table.

Colmes

You don't have to use integers...

font size=0.2 should be good enough for Colmes

13. Alan Colmes, Professional Toady
Edited on Sun Dec-28-03 01:24 AM by Cat Atomic
Screw that fool. He's almost as phoney as Bill O'Reilley.

I've heard him say that he refrains from arguing with Hannity because he chooses to "fight fire with water". Sure.

Hannity is a house of cards. It'd take all of 2 minutes to knock that fraud on his ass, rhetorically speaking. All you'd need is a third grade reading level and a pair of nuts. Alan lacks at least one of those things.

I loved the e-mails he used from FOX viewers.

Very telling and almost worth the price of the book alone.
