A REAL Earthquake Conspiracy (Seattle)
OK, so it's actually just an amazing coincidence. But the timing is truly amazing.

It started with a Mardi Gras celebration that transformed into a riot in 2001. In the early hours of February 28, dozens of people were injured and one individual was killed as the famously inept and corrupt Seattle police did what they do best - watch from a safe distance.

Later that same day, Western Washington was struck by a 6.8 earthquake. The worst damage in Seattle occurred in Pioneer Square - the very spot where the Mardi Gras riot occurred.

It was the straw that broke Mayor Paul Schell's back. Already trailing blood from the sensational WTO protest, that corrupt bastard was booted out of office in the next mayoral campaign.

There are three other Seattle dates that I think are rather sensational.

1. On November 5 of this year, Gary Ridgway, better known as the "Green River Killer," was convicted of numerous murders. It was the same day as the general election of what may be Seattle's most corrupt election ever. Virtually all Seattle elections result in a new batch of scum taking office, but this election was remarkable for its extraordinary propaganda and manipulation. A new batch of scum was indeed sucked in, while veteran scum who had done as much damage to society as Gary Ridgway did retired to collect their thirty pieces of silver.

2. I can't even remember the year offhand, but Seattle Schools Superintendent John Stanford had just about reached the end of his rope. Having barely survived two major lawsuits that should have landed him behind bars, the corrupt lunatic began hawking real estate on TV, igniting yet another public firestorm. Amazingly, he then he exploited children in an extraordinary blackmail attempt.

I thought it was the final nail in his coffin. When I heard the news that the SOB had leukemia, I thought it was just another publicity stunt, designed to bolster public support.

But it was true. Stanford continued exploiting children even as his life flickered out. He died before he could be appointed U.S. Secretary of Education by Al Gore or George W. Bush.

3. 1970 - I call this "The Year of the Garfield High School Conspiracy" because of all the extraordinary events that transpired, many of which have repercussions even today.

It just goes to show that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction - or conspiracy theories.

DISCLAIMER: I wrote this quite hastily, so I may have made a tiny error or two, but the basic facts are solid.

Double dose of woe strikes historic Seattle neighborhood
Quake follows on heels of Mardi Gras riot

SEATTLE, Washington -- Seattle's oldest neighborhood got a double dose of damage in just a few hours on Wednesday, beginning with a nasty clash between police and riotous revelers and ending with a rumbling earthquake that crumbled facades and shattered glass.

Shop windows in Pioneer Square were already broken late Tuesday and early Wednesday when hundreds of Mardi Gras partyers took their celebrations to an extreme.

1. You need to check YOUR facts
Gosh, where to start.

First of all, the election was November 4th. Why do I know this? I ran for retention of my city council seat in a small Western Washington town. Since I am in King County, I take exception to your characterization that everyone holding political office is "corrupt".

If you're going to make a point, at least get your facts straight.

"Virtually all Seattle elections result in a new batch of scum taking office"? Really. Let me tell you what my life was like over the past fourteen months. I was appointed to my position in August of 2002. I worked full-time at a job that pays $250 per month. I spent hours and hours and hours reading the city's comp plan and council materials, attending committee and council meetings, research, research, research, meeting with constituents, getting yelled at by those same constituents over issues that happened 20 years ago that I can't change. The things I could change, I did my best at. My husband and I have donated literally hundreds of volunteer hours (and a complete city website,) since we moved here three years ago. I have never taken one favor, one dime other than my salary, and when someone wanted to "do lunch," I PAID FOR IT out of my own funds, so nobody could ever accuse me of accepting anything from anyone that would influence my vote. I paid for my own campaign, other than the $400 I received from the local Democrats. I worked my ass off, and ended up losing to a woman who promised a local special interest group that she would push through a very expensive and very unnecessary project for them, among other things. The only way to retain political office is to constantly tout one's "achievements" and "work," as opposed to doing that work. I had two colleagues that did NOTHING over the year that they were appointed besides brag about themselves; they were handily elected. I was stupid enough to think that my work would speak for me. If politicians are all "corrupt" and people vote for those who have less than the constituent's best interests at heart, what does it say about the voters?

If people like me do not get involved in politics, you'll get the same old, same old. I may have lost, but I am still working, and I will keep working for everyone.

Just a question, JailForBush -- have you run for public office? Do you volunteer in the city? Are you even registered to vote? It's amazing how many people I encountered who bitch and bitch about elected officials, but will not run themselves, and aren't even registered to vote.

If you want change in the city of Seattle, it had better start with you.
