23. He's the author Great Country Classics.....
Such as "You ain't been much fun since I quit drinking", "Who's your daddy", "A Little less talk (and a lot more action)", and "Beer for my horses". And country listners have the nerve to make fun of hip-hop.

actually, I do listen to some country, just not the likes of Toby Keith. my secret santa at work listed him as an artist he liked, so I downloaded (like I would pay for that crap) a bunch of songs and burned him a cd. it was an reaffirming expierence.

5. Never heard of him until you mentioned his name.
But a Google-search brough this up:

Toby Keith

Country singer-songwriter Toby Keith was born Toby Keith Covel in Clinton, Okla. in 1961 and began playing guitar at age 8, though he spent most of his youth on the football field, eventually playing in the ill-fated United States Football League. In 1984 Keith began a career as a professional musician in the Easy Money Band, a popular nightclub country band. Though the group was doing quite well, Keith wanted to sing his own songs, and so moved to Nashville and became a solo performer. In the early '90s he finally landed a deal with Mercury, who released Keith's eponymous debut album in 1993; the record spawned the Top 10 singles "Should've Been a Cowboy," "He Ain't Worth Missing," and "A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action," and soon went platinum. Keith was named Top New Country Artist by Billboard Magazine.

6. That guy who was the target of that "FUTK" shirt
that one of the Dixie Chicks wore on that country music award show. He also does them damn Ford truck commercials too.

Although I'm a happy Ford driver (Mercury actually-- a '97 Sable Wagon to be exact), I still think Toby Keith is an asshat, and doubt he could handle a REAL strong woman like the ones in the Dixie Chicks.

9. The T.K. in F.U.T.K.
Edited on Sun Dec-28-03 11:29 PM by William Seger
... on Dixie Chick Natalie Maines' t-shirt (at the Country Music Awards, I believe). Maines had said that Keith's "The Angry American" ("we'll put a boot up your ass") song made country music sound ignorant -- which is an understatement. Keith replied with a well-thought-out logical argument about how his song-writing skills far surpass Maines'.

Keith also wrote "I Wanna Talk About Me", which I originally though was a satire about what happens when two self-centered people get hooked up, but finding out that Keith wrote it sorta took the wind out of the "satire" theory. I really think the guy must use an elastic strap on his guitar, or he wouldn't be able to get it over his head.

ABC had asked Keith to appear on their 4th of July special, but then Peter Jennings heard his song and nixed the whole thing. He realized in time what a no-class guy this Toby Keith is.

At least not according to Natalie Maines. She came up with some other lame-ass story for FUTK, and cowardly refused to name Toby Keith when EVERYONE knew that's what she meant. She claimed it meant "Forgiveness and Understanding Through Knowledge."

If "EVERYONE knew that's what she meant", then saying it meant "Forgiveness and Understanding Through Knowledge" was a pretty obvious joke, wasn't it? Apparently not, to right-wingers.

34. what are you talking about?
this is right up there with Prufrock:

We got winners, we got losers
Chain smokers and boozers
And we got yuppies, we got bikers
We got thirsty hitchhikers
And the girls next door dress up like movie stars

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, I love this bar

We got cowboys, we got truckers
Broken-hearted fools and suckers
And we got hustlers, we got fighters
Early birds and all-nighters
And the veterans talk about their battle scars

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

I love this bar
It's my kind of place
Just walkin' through the front door
Puts a big smile on my face
It ain't too far, come as you are
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

I've seen short skirts, we got high-techs
Blue-collar boys and rednecks
And we got lovers, lots of lookers
And I've even seen dancing girls and hookers
And we like to drink our beer from a mason jar

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar
O, Yes I do

I like my truck (I like my truck)
I like my girlfriend (I like my girlfriend)
I like to take her out to dinner
I like a movie now and then

But I love this bar
It's my kind of place
Just trollin' around the dance floor
Puts a big smile on my face
No cover charge, come as you are
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm I love this bar

What's wrong with it? I was seriously pissed when bin Laden's people blew up the World Trade Center. What is wrong with writing a song about getting the people who did it? Nothing. Fill me in...were you against getting al quaeda? If not, then why against the song? So what if he's a repukelican? I don't care about that in a musician. He captured the way that most of us felt at the time.

Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
Somebody blew up a building
Somebody stole a car
Somebody got away
Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
They didn’t get too far

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We’ve got too much corruption, and crime in the streets
It’s time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send ’em all to their maker and he’ll settle ’em down
You can bet he’ll set ’em down ’cause

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line

61. Yeah, real similar
Here's a Johnny song about law:

San Quentin, you've been livin' hell to me
You've hosted me since nineteen sixty three
I've seen 'em come and go and I've seen them die
And long ago I stopped askin' why

San Quentin, I hate every inch of you.
You've cut me and have scarred me thru an' thru.
And I'll walk out a wiser weaker man;
Mister Congressman why can't you understand.

San Quentin, what good do you think you do?
Do you think I'll be different when you're through?
You bent my heart and mind and you may my soul,
And your stone walls turn my blood a little cold.

San Quentin, may you rot and burn in hell.
May your walls fall and may I live to tell.
May all the world forget you ever stood.
And may all the world regret you did no good.

San Quentin, you've been livin' hell to me.

Here's a Kris song about law:

I was runnin' thru the summer rain, try'n' to catch that evenin' train
And kill the old familiar pain weavin' thru my tangled brain
When I tipped my bottle back and smacked into a cop I didn't see
That police man said, ";Mister Cool, if you ain't drunk, then you're a
fool.";
I said, ";If that's against the law, then tell me why I never saw
A man locked in that jail of yours who wasn't neither black or poor as
me?";
Well, that was when someone turned out the lights
And I wound up in jail to spend the night
And dream of all the wine and lonely girls
In this best of all possible worlds.

Well, I woke up next mornin' feelin' like my head was gone
And like my thick old tongue was lickin' something sick and wrong
And I told that man I'd sell my soul for something wet and cold as that
old cell.
That kindly jailer grinned at me, all eaten up with sympathy
Then poured himself another beer and came and whispered in my ear,
";If booze was just a dime a bottle boy, you couldn't even buy the smell";
I said, ";I knew there was something I liked about this town.";
But it takes more than that to bring me down, down, down.
'Cause there's still a lot of wine and lonely girls
In this best of all possible worlds

Well, they finally came and told me they was a gonna set me free
And I'd be leavin' town if I knew what was good for me
I said, ";It's nice to learn that ev'rybody's so concerned about my
health.";
(They were obsessed with it)
I said, ";I won't be leavin' no more quicker than I can
'Cause I've enjoyed about as much of this as I can stand
And I don't need this town of yours more than I never needed nothin'
else.";
'Cause there's still alot of drinks that I ain't drunk
And lots of pretty thoughts that I ain't thunk
And lord there's still so many lonely girls
In this best of all possible worlds.

Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson rock, but Toby Keith is a right wing idiot.

58. No one, I mean NO ONE was more angry and saddened...
...about the 9/11 attacks than myself. And when I heard that song, I was outraged by his trite sentiments about the attacks, and his obvious attempt to cash in on it by writing, performing and SELLING a song about the tragedy. At no time did I feel that his song spoke for me or about my feelings in regards to the tragedy. I would compare his exploitation of the events of 9/11 to how the Repugs decided to hold their convention in the city that suffered the most on 9/11. Utterly shameless.

Toby Keith can wear MY boot up HIS ass... it's the REAL AMERICAN way!!!

64. The way most of us felt at that time?
The most of WHO? Not me. That song comes nowhere NEAR how I felt at that time, or any other time.

The man is a talentless, flag-posturing nutjob.

Vote Democratic.

67. Caleb --
--You sure got folks good and roused over this question on Tobuh Keef. You brought the lightning. Also I like the new graphic on your signature. I feel sorry for Barney, though. He looks like he wants the hell out of there fast.

69. I saw his cd's in the discount bin...
two for $15. The Dixie Chicks' cd, on the other hand, were on prominent display at the beginning of every aisle.

Interesting, huh'?! :-)
