"Being burned by Bush may be good for Democrats"
"MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — Every action, said the political pundit Sir Isaac Newton, produces an equal and opposite reaction.

"The year 2003 will be remembered as the time when Democrats decided to fight back against George W. Bush after coddling and even embracing him in 2002. This whiplash will mean some surprising things for 2004."

Wow, this is a pretty inspirational column. I hope the author knows what he's talking about.

1. i doubt it.
Losing ground in a political war, is not good. By that faulty logic, having the nation go bankrupt and plunging 100 million americans in to poverty is a good sign, as it will re-awaken democracy....

I appreciate the columist is trying to make an omlette with rotten eggs, but its all to pollyanna.

The constitution is what is endangered, and this has no relationship to eisenhower... perhaps jefferson davis... if you want a historical parallel to what the bushaviks are about... or the bolsheviks themselves.

Clearly the columist still has a job, as the new millions in poverty would hardly chump up such hogwash.

Worked for FDR.

We are such a lazy, self-centered people that it may take the majority of us getting beaten before we wake up and hit back. Hard to change things when 80% of us think we are in the top 5% and resent free cheese for poor kids more than we do multi-billion bailouts for military toilet seat manufacturers.

5. Question...Whose Voters Are More Likely To Stay Home
Maybe this should be posted as a topic unto itself, but the real test next year will be which party gets out the less-than-faithful. I can't think of an election in recent memory where the parties were this polarized and now the question is who is more energized.

The Repugnicans are lock-step with their manchild and are kept on message by the Rove machine. They get a daily feeding of red meat from Savage and Vanity and Scarface and O'Really along with the black is white "logic" of Faux. It's a well-oiled machine and the biggest worry here is being too complacent...thinking the election is in the bag. I don't think that's a problem as there's always another "tear" alert or evil doer or bread or circus to divert and get the faithful back on track.

The Democrats are in angst about if they hate Bunnypants (they do) and who hate him more. Some stay above the fray while others toss bombs..quite a mix. Overall it's an undercurrent, or in DU's case, truely stated as an Underground...of discontent on a wide variety of interests and issues that are galvanizing in their detest of this regime and the various sins its committed.

Right now I call it a push (co-op? Damn cookie) as the Repugnicans have held a big lead in this area for at least a decade. Are the Democrats actually ready to fight back or is this just rumblings from the fringe?
