We have lost the War on Terror
Yes, I am sad to report, America has lost the war on terrorism. All of the signs that the terrorists have won are right in front of everybody's noses:

1) Watch out for people carrying almanacs (???????).

2) Patriot Act I

3) Tommy Chong went to prison for selling glass.

4) Right to a trial by a jury of our peers has been thrown out the window for anybody even suspected of being a "terraist".

5) Patriot Act II

6) Special Visas for reporters.

7) Canada is our enemy (Canada for criminies sake!).

8) ORANGE ALERT!!!!!!

9) Terrorist "chatter" prompts calls for vigilance, stepped up security measures, and a further erosion of the Bill of Rights.

10) Questioning anything our pResident does is "Anti-American" and "Un-Patriotic".

The list goes on....

We are a terrorized people, ergo, the terrorists have met their objectives.

We have lost the war on terror.

3. New Cold War
The terrorist war is a sham. Neo-conservatives like Wolfowitz, Cheney and Rumsfeld needed a new enemy for America to fear. It allows them to rebuild the military and fulfill their dreams of America as a super power. It's all spelled out at the PNAC site.

They keep telling us they are winning the war on terrorism, but did you notice that there are never any specifics.

How does one win a war against terrorist when it's an ideology.
The British couldn't stop the IRA.
The Isrealis can't stop the PLO/Hamas
The French couldn't stop the Algerian FLN
The Philippinos can't stop the NPA or MNLF
The Russians can't stop the Chechnyas
The Germans couldn't stop the Yugoslavians
The British couldn't stop Iraqi in 1920's
The Soviets couldn't stop the Majuhadeen

They want this "war" to continue so the American sheeple can be told what to do.

4. Yep ! No probable cause needed in Florida now
You get stopped and searched for "suspicious vehicle". Local City Governments are making a fortune. Seat belts, not carrying insurance papers or title in car, check every driver for warrants. We already had to allocate emergency funds for more jail space, and now we got a "faith based" prison up North where all the "good people" live.

5. The only thing you have to fear is fear itself.
Terror is fear. We fear fear.

Oh, yeah. We lost that one, big.

Of course, if Mr. Perpetual War Is A Good Thing For Me hadn't declared war against a feeling, we wouldn't be in this mess.

6. You've got it.
I'm sick of hearing "If we do this or if we don't do that, the terrorists will win."

THEY ALREADY WON, DAMNIT!

The instant Patriot I was passed, the terrorists won.

The instant some FBI idiot decided it would be a good thing to tell local law enforcement to be on the lookout for anybody carrying an almanac, the terrorist wona HUGE victory.

Whenever we go on Orange Alert because of "chatter', we lose again.

There have been exactly NO vitories in the "War on Terror", only losses.

7. Bravo Walt!
You put it well. Terrorism isn't about bombings, bioterror attacks, or death. It's about fear to serve some sort of political or social end. That's why groups such as the Klan and those Operation Rescue murderers are all terrorists as well, not that the FBI remembers that anymore.

9. Can´t agree.
First: You as Americans have lost a fight against that strange regime of yours.
Second: The war is not over yet.
Third: The only way to win against terrorists is, to not let them rule your country. You have to keep your rights and your freedom and you have to change the circumstances that help the terrorists recruiting new young terrorists. Then, and only then, you have a chance to win. So if you want to win, get a new government, that is able to. If you cannot, THEN you have lost

11. I think you're agreeing without agreeing
We've lost our rights. We are a terrorized people and creating terror is the goal of the terrorists. If the terrorists achieve their goal, they have won, and they have achieved the goal of making the U.S. a nation of terrorized sheep.

Even if we change our governement in 2004, we may still have lost because unless we restore the rights that we have given up in the name of the "War on Terror", we will still be a terrorized people.

The only way for us to win the war on terror is to stop sucummbing to the terror.

does not mean to loose the war.
I´m sure that Americans are able to overcome this.
Hey, it was YOU that rescued Europe from that Nazi bunch!
I´m sure you´ll also find a way out of your trouble.
DO NOT GIVE UP!

15. Bullshit
Unless paranoid by nature, people are living life as usual. I know a LOT of people: family, friends, business contacts. Not one is terrorized in the least.

Now, if you are so frightened you may want to seek counseling. Life will never be risk-free.

As a nation, we are a terrorized people, else ORANGE ALERT, Patriot I & II, Ashcroft BS, the loss of rights in the name of security, and the lot of the bullshit going on right now would not happen.

We have lost the War on Terror. The terrorists have achieved their objectives, ergo, they have won.

edited to add: Until the Terror Alert System goes to Green, the terorrists have the nation terrorized.

Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 12:57 PM by Q
...one can't even discuss 9-11 in DU general discussion because some posters are 'embarrassed'. Can you believe it? Not to discuss the very reason we're at war?

- It seems to me that those who object to these kinds of debates are the more CONSERVATIVE members of the Democratic party...more concerned with style than substance.

- We have indeed lost the war on terrorism. Why? Because Democrats have proven to be too cowardly to stand up and fight those who want to quiet our voices.
