Voter Registration Strategies--How you and I can register 1000 new voters!
My New Years resolution is to get 1000 new voters registered by the 2004 election. I don't think it will be that hard to reach the goal and here is how I intend to do it.

1. Collect over 1,000 voter registration forms via Internet and post office.

2. Begin handing them out at one locale a week, beginning sometime this month.
- Bus stops.
- Dive/slacker/goth pubs around town--try to end the repub domination of the white male vote.
- College campuses.
- Malls.
- Street corners.

3. Purchase used "newspaper vending boxes", paint them, fill them with registrations, and place them around town. Possibly adorn these with democraticunderground.com and buzzflash stickers.

4. Give people multiple registration forms and IMPLORE them to give them to their politically inactive relatives. Ask them to make every effort to get their whole family registered.

5. Other efforts in coordination with my own book tour in 2004, which will be very political.

6. Write a quick summary of how to do this from scratch, and pass it on to obviously motivated (awake) voters. Use this formula to encourage, conjole, and beg others to pledge to get 1,000 voters.

-----------------

Suggestions? Ideas?

I am starting this next week and will update this as it becomes more delineated.

Like all of you, I am not messing around. This can work. I personally will focus on getting out the 50% who don't vote.

If you're going to do this in a mall or college campus, pick a mall or college campus which has mostly Democrats.

3. I registered 242 at Farmer's Market over an 8 wk. period.
(85% Dems)
We are setting up at Albertson's, and Wal-Mart has FINALLY given us permission to do voter registration on their property.

People needed: 2, so one can occasionally go to the bathroom.

Equipment needed: voter registration forms; card table; 2 folding chairs, minimum, one for you and one for the person registering; MANY pens with black ink(Murphy's law); coffee , food bars or whatever other comfort items you need.A big sign: REGISTER TO VOTE HERE.

Preparation: Talk to your county clerk and ask a lot of questions. You will be asked many and you need to know how to answer them. Like: "I was convicted of a felony in 1970. Can I vote?"Know when the next election is and the cut-off date for registration.

And ENTHUSIASM. Psych yourself up. You are doing a great thing for our nation.(Helps to fight the boredom)

Hints: arrange your set-up in advance with the manager/owner.Follow their rules. Be non-partisan in places where it is required.(Many public events do not require you be non-partisan, so if you want to have the local Democrats or your fellow candidate followers help, do so. You will still be registering EVERYONE.)Hit public events, art shows, fairs, auto and gun shows, etc.

Observations: Auto repair shops are great to register white males who aren't wealthy.
Public schools will let you register seniors if you set up appointments, be non-partisan, and follow their rules.(GET THOSE FIRST-TIME VOTERS).
For colleges, you may have to have a club or faculty member sponsor you.

NOW, GO FOR IT!!
And thnk you, frank frankly, for reminding us of what's really important.

4. Great.......
.........now how do you plan to get those votes counted if you are using Black Boxes? At least advise these folks to vote absentee as well and make copies before they hand them in or mail them.
