Please read - insane new year wish-list from my local neo-con rag.
From the Calgary Herald (Calgary, Alberta)(Jan 1st 2004)
Opinion Page Editorial (Excerpt)
"Looking further afield, Howard Dean wins our nod for the Democratic Presidential nomination, because it's important George W. Bush gets the best chance possible of another four years. Dean provides that with his turn-on-a-dime policies and graceless condescencion - how does a Vermont patrician expect to sound real when he says he wants to be the candidate for 'the guys with Confederate flags in their pick-up trucks'."
"As for Bush, we like the man's courage and the bigness of his vision. True, he has a protectionist streak in him, as US steel makers and mid-West farmers were glad to find. He does what he thinks is good America, not Canada."
"He more than makes up for it abroad, however. When he embarked upon a plan to remake the Middle East, the smart money mocked him - viciously. Yet, a free and democratic Iraq is now possible, if not inevitable. Libya and Iran have accepted UN weapons inspectors. Syria is compliant, and even Saudi Arabia shows signs of taking the War on Terror seriously."
"None of this would have happened without Bush. We hope our neighbours allow him to continue the work he has begun."

"...Of course to have a truly happy new year, we want it all. Competitive delivery of universal health care, (Canadian) senate reform, Kyoto sacked, Ann Coulter knocking off (feisty Liberal MP) Sheila Copps in a nomination battle, and the four horsemen of the apocalypse taking a vacation."
"Realistically, we'd settle for politicians who recognize that government isn't the solution, but the problem. At least this year, we may have the opportunity to elect them. Happy New Year."

Earlier on, the editorial criticises Alberta's RW govt for spending too much, and asks for an opposition to it from the right."

Welcome to Southern Alberta, the anti-Canada. I'm embarassed to share a city with these extremists.

1. Holy shit! I didn't know the Herald was THAT right wing
I haven't read it yet, I work for the same chain as the Sun, which could use a spanking too. But that is, unbelievable. I hope I have a chance to meet some of the LCC rejects that wrote that so I can nuke em.

3. I may write a LTTE about it, but what's the fucking use with these morons?
Do they really think any Calgarians have even heard of Ann Coulter? Dumbasses!

2. What was that about the "vison" of bush?...
Holy Crap, his only vision is world domination!

What a bunch of fools at that paper. For all they know Canada may next on bush's "hit list" because of the Rx drug fiasco, (not to mention French Canadians)!

Sometimes I think our brothers and sisters to the North get a little too much time out in the frigid air. Must freeze up some of the synapses that should be working.

9. The rural vote in BC isn't necessarily right wing.
A lot of those CA ridings were formerly NDP ridings. That's the western alienation vote. BC is not as right-wing as Alberta. Alberta isn't really that right wing, it's the fact that we have a neo-conservative elite focused around Ralph Klein, the CA, the Edmonton Journal and the Calgary Herald. The right wing political victories here come from an ability to motivate feelings of alienation and offering lower taxes.

Sucking Bouchard and his separashit cronies off or whoring himself to American corporations.

5. Well we know know who will get the fat oil contracts up north.
It has to be a community thing or the mews papers would not be bought. I really think in the end, it won't matter who is the nominee for the Dem's. We will all support him or her to take down Bush.
:kick: Dem and damn proud of it!

Definately would benefit from a Ketamine tranquilizer dart in the left cheek of their ass. Shoved down the KHole and left there.

10. Ugh
I didn't think the Herald editorial board were that big of Bush ass-kissers. The word on the street in Calgary is very anti-Bush.

11. Like I say, we have a fundamentalist right-wing elite who buy votes.
I don't believe my fellow Calgarians are as right-wing as they're made out to be. What they are is clueless about politics. A party comes along and says 'Ottawa doesn't listen to you, we will. Ottawa won't lower your taxes, we will'. It doesn't matter if it's a lie, it sells.

12. So...Bush "wants" Dean, eh?
Just like Karl Rove says...The Bushies are scared of Dean. They put out all this crap about Dean being an "easy pick-off" for their boy, hoping that the Democrats will believe it and nominate Lieberman, who IS an easy pick-off....

Hate to tell the Editors of the Herald, but if we get saddled with another 4 years of Bush, the "Four Horsemen" will be working overtime, not going on vacation.

What you folks up north should do is flood the LTTE with "If you like Bush so damn much, why don't you MOVE there?" Letters like the RW nuts do when someone here writes an anti-Bush letter ("Oh yeah? Well why don't you move to Canada or Cuba if you hate Murka so much!")

13. I think we need a left-wing newspaper to counter this blatant propoganda
Thank god for the Globe and Mail. It's not left-wing, but it's good journalism. This stuff is just bad agit-prop.
