Guys are drawn to the excitement of war
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 01:55 AM by skjpm
I don't think guys think very deeply about the reasons for war. I think that when a war starts, they think, "Yay! We can shoot our weapons now!" That's why I don't think anyone is thinking too deeply about why we are in Iraq--they don't want their excuse to shoot other guys taken away.

I think we have to remember that a lot of the excitement about Iraq has nothing to do with the reasons, but is just the excitement of being in a war, any war. Some people seem to enjoy war. And we can't argue them out of it.

edited to change sig. line and clarify content

2. Please don't generalize "guys."
It's just as sexist as saying something like "All women stink and have cooties."

There are a lot of guys on this board...Do THEY have murderous fantasies? As a "guy," I have never ONCE wanted to shoot "other guys."

Maybe you should change the subject to something a little less inflammatory.

3. Have you read Jarhead?
I think that he does a good job describing the excitement of being able to shoot at other guys. He grows out of it, but I think that most young guys like the thrill of being in this great little video game Bush has set up. And once they find out it's not a video game, it's too late.

4. That's like saying...
everybody who joins the military does so becasue they're subliterate moronic knuckledraggers with big dicks.

It ain't necessarily so, and it makes the person saying it look foolish.
