Bush coming into saint Louis again. Should I go and see?
A friend asked me if I wanted to come out to protest.

Ok, but then I read this...

"Police have repressed protesters during several Bush visits to the St. Louis area as well. When Bush visited on Jan. 22, 150 people carrying signs were shunted far away from the main action and effectively quarantined.

Denise Lieberman of the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri commented, "No one could see them from the street. In addition, the media were not allowed to talk to them. The police would not allow any media inside the protest area and wouldn't allow any of the protesters out of the protest zone to talk to the media." "

So I gotta wonder..whats even the point of protesting if no on will be allowed to see? it seems they are trying to make it so I might as wel lprotest in my room (at least it's heated)

So if anyone can think of a god reason to bother, please let me know becuase I do want ot protest..just not in vain.

oh, and is anyone else from DU thinking on going there?

1. When is this?
I don't like Bush coming here. I'd certainly consider going if its in my area. I went to the JSLogistics protest because it was in walking distance, and though it was cold and I knew no one there, it felt good to be there. It would be nice if Bush wasn't such a flaccid little puppet that had to be shielded from dissent, but having him see us isn't the point, he'd just declare us unpatriotic anyway.

If they keep you hidden maybe you'll stay away.

4. Protest!
Free speech zones are illegal. The whole country is a free speech zone. We need to keep challenging their unconstitutional tactics. Maybe you will wind up with a financial windfall from one of the class action lawsuits.

5. Bush going to photo-op "no child left behind"
Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 01:45 PM by revcarol
in city when hundreds of children are left behind.Bush adminstration made the situation worse.

Make you own personal decision about protesting. Some might think that getting Bush to ACTUALLY FUND children's programs is worth it.

6. If you helped... perhaps 100,000 protestors would show up.....

it takes EFFORT to get people to come to protests...I've worked on many of the BIG protests in DC...and it takes EFFORT....if 150 brave American HEROS stood up before, and if each bought 10 more...

YOU should help....instead of getting on DU and instilling FEAR into other possible protestors...

there are likely groups working right NOW on setting up a protests to SAVE AMERICA....go out and STAND UP like a real patriot...

just don't do anything illegal...but GO OUT and STAND UP...STAND UP on sidewalks, STAND UP in parks, hang banners out of BIG buildings...help organize this behind the scenes....

if not YOU, who?
if not NOW, when?

9. Yes you should go!
To begin protest are usually fun at the very least. You'll meet like minded people and have a good time yelling about stuff that you hate. Next, don't let them contain you in a free speech zone, organize with people there to re-meet somewhere closer. If the cops say you can't do that just lie, say free-speech zones have been found unconstitutional in St. Louis and don't apply anymore (they will be eventually so no worries). Don't let them intimidate you but at the same time make sure you're with a group.

I'm asking you to please go and bring as many people as you can, showing America Bush's opposition will not back down is important.

Have fun and good luck!

11. Here's an idea
Heckling is an old and honorable political tradition. Since they keep protesters away from him, why not go into the crowd where he is speaking then start shouting out questions to him that he can't possibly answer. That would do considerable damage because they really can't confine you because you are not "protesting" and if they drag you out of the crowd for asking questions, its going to make more people wonder about him, maybe start asking questions themselves.

and actually, if I were to get arrested at a protest for exercising my free speech, I'd consider it a badge of honor!

Edited on Mon Jan-05-04 06:08 PM by booley
it's somewhere on washington that the protest is going on.

it's my first anbd a friend (who is obviously much better informed then I) is picking me up.

But apparently it's going on right now.

Ok, I decided to go. it's silly for me to judge an action I have never witnessed and know nothing about.

thanks!

18. Go. Do it.
The regime WANTS you to think that protest is useless. I assure you it is not.

After all, they're only your Constitutional rights: Use 'em or lose'em.

Please go, then come back and report what happened. Many of us will be with you.
