BBV: CA Voting Systems Panel meeting next week
We posted the (December 16) remarks made to the Voting Systems Panel by California Sec. of State Shelley. It was an inspiring speech, worth the read.

The continuation of that meeting is next week on January 15, 10AM.

It would be great if we can really get a lot of folks there - this should be an interesting meeting, as I believe the equipment in ALL California counties (and all manufacturers?) are being audited.

Additionally, any reaction to Diebold's installation of uncertified software will likely be revealed at the meeting.

Anyone wishing to carpool may discuss that here:

1. I'm speaking at a forum that weekend...
...on the voting machine issue.

California, stand up and be counted. People are waking up.

Vendors have driven this issue for too long. It's time for voters to tell them the way it's going to be.

4. It's YOUR Vote- Take It BACK
The voting machine industry has driven this for too long. With very few exception, they're not trying to do it right.

From the beginning, it should have been a system designed by people, scientists, accountants, and election officials.

THEN sent out for bid to build.

Not just taking what is offered and being told how it will work and how it's gonna be, over those drinks and dinners at all those nice association meetings where officials are wined, dined, and brainwahshed.

Take back control people!

6. Someone go for me, please
I'm two states away and have a voting systems speaking engagement that weekend.

Common California.

Make this another CBS Evening News event.

P.S.

I've received feedback that an event up in Seattle last night had estimates of 150 - 250 people in attendance- almost all of them for voter verified paper ballots. This was a forum hosted by the LWV, who I guess were a little shocked at the turnout. The panel had the Secretary of State, an auditor, a former State Election Director now King County elections chief- and I'm told an awesome Barbara Simons!

8. I may take you up on that beer
If I can fund-raise a couple hundred bucks to get me there. California is leading the way for a much less enlightened group of officials here in Washington State.

16. Road Trip?
Just make sure you can get over the Oregon passes before Medford.

Then stop at the Beanery in Ashland (if it still exists) for cocoa laden expresso.

I don't miss the 100 degree plus summers, but the beauty of Howard Prairie Lake above Ashland- yes!

23. YOU Rock the California Vote!
Just a reminder that Shelley and staff will be under enormous pressure from vendor influenced auditors and others to go back to the same-old, same-old, of hidden source code and questionable results that are PR'd over by the voting companies. Some of the companies even hire PR firms for counties that use their equipment.

Time to let it be known that citizens will not stand for the status quo as dictated by voting machine business anymore. WE tell them what a voting system will do, and they deliver what WE want. No more letting county and state election officials agree to democracy defeating deals.

Fill the room up, hallways, building, and take it to the streets!

(I think Greg said the beer was on him? Someone drink a good, dark sout or porter for me, I'll be recovering from a Washington meet and prepping for a speech and activism forum Saturday)
