2. My bookmarker
is planning on chomping on many responses! I need music! I do like WITR in a big way, though.

4. And for some reason, I haven't seen it advertised as being shown
This Easter weekend. Again.

For some reason, the local networks stopped showing it about two years ago and I haven't seen a listing on the cable box.(Not even on TBN or WGN...)

Before then, that movie used to be one of the holiday staples, along with "Godspell", "Easter Parade", all those special Easter episodes of shows like "The Waltons" or "Davey and Goliath" and all the other "Jesus of Galilee" movies that had been made over the history of cinema.

I do miss JCS; I have a special fondness not only for the frank handling and use of symbology in the movie, but we did the "official" medley mix (usually used for the overture for the musical when performed on the road) for a Jr. HS music competition once and blew everyone away.

5. This was actually a pretty good movie, I thought....
.....so much good visuals, and the music is just great.

It really does a great job of interpreting the story (eg. Herod as this materialist sell-out type, and Simon Zealotes as a "freedom fighter").

I wonder what the reception was when it first came out. Was it controversial at the time?

6. It was released in 1973 to a big yawn...
hardly controversial at all. Not really surprising, considering the state of the world and politics at that time. Nixon being impeached and finally resigning, etc. Plus, society was much more "liberal" back then.
