1. I have seen it
but the book is even better. There's even a sequel titled "Blanding's Way" about living in the house, dealing with the townspeople, and eventually moving back to NYC. Author is Eric Hodgins.

3. One of my favorite movies!
There are so many great bits to love about it. I think the sticker shock about how much that beautiful house in Conn. cost back then -- what was it?, something $25,000?

5. hahaha what about the house painter scene
she goes through all that spiel about the exact color she wants the rooms to be painted and then the painters say...Blue and Yellow...etc

6. Let's see..
the painter was supposed to go to the market and get a pound of the best butter and match that for yellow, the white was to be white but not a cold white, a little warmer but not anything that would suggest anything but white, the blue was not quite a robins egg blue (too green), the red was an apple red -- was that the thread sample or the fabric swatch? :)

4. Loved it!
What amazes me to this day is the price for the thirty(?) acres, razingf one house, building another brand new one on the same spot, digging a well, hiring architects, construction crews, engineer's, etc was only $30,000!!! if my memory of the movie serves me correctly.

And Myrna Loy! She's almost as easy to look at as Irenne Dunne. Man, I wish those hair- and clothes-styles would come back for gals....
:)

7. Myrna really WAS amazing!
As an actress she had a wonderfully contemporary feel to her -- in looking at her old movies she doesn't seem dated at all. And she did the best bemused wife of ANY actress.

One of my favorite roles of hers was in "The Best Years of Our Lives". They sure don't make'em like that anymore.
