2. In many school districts, the "short bus" takes the

less bright students to their special school. You know who I mean. The bus is shorter, I guess, because there aren't as many students that ride it.

3. it's a crass and rather unfriendly

reference to the short buses that are often used to transport special ed. students. Lately, the term has gained acceptance as meaning "stupid." And I certainly don't use it with any disrespect intended for anyone who rode the short bus. I've said before, where I grew up, the short bus was used for rural runs, because a long bus would've been out for days to fill to capacity. But in calling * the short bus president, I definitely mean to imply profound mental retardation.
