7. The BLUE DEVILS!
Heh. Drum corps. They won DCI this year.

It's a great activity for musicians. Think of a marching band without anything from the woodwind section, and all the horns tuned in the same key, plus a nice tight drumline and a kick-ass colorguard.

10. I like your acknowledgment of the ephemeral nature of taste.
It makes it easier to answer your poll truthfully.

My favorite bands of the moment:

Flamin Groovies (with Roy Lomey and Cyril Jordan together)
Les Paul and Mary Ford
The Lyres
The Hangmen (from LA)
Parliament/Funkadelic

17. I owe Tool
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 12:40 AM by tarkus
Tool opened the door to a vast amount of music that I had not heard of before them. Without Tool, I never would have found progressive rock, and that is almost all I listen to.

As for favorite bands, I have been listening to a lot of Jethro Tull from their "pseudo- folk" period in the late 1970's. I am actually listening to Metallica right now, which I haven't done in a while.

Do Peter Gabriel and Roger Waters count as "bands" or do I have to start a "Who is your favorite Genius?" thread? Oh I'm clever.

14. i'm so into the songwriter thing right now that "bands" is a little
beside the point for me, but:

The Iguanas
dada
Nickel Creek
The Bill Evans Trio (with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian)
The Beat Farmers
The Derailers
El Rayo X
Del Amitri
The Goners (John Hiatt's band with Sonny Landreth--Damn!)
The Doors (how far ahead of his time was Ray Manzarek?)
Jackson Browne's latest band (I don't think they have a name)
Los Lobos
Madredeus
Clapton with Delaney Bonnie and Friends

are in the current playlist and many of them have been in there for a l-o-n-g time.

There are a few things I LOVE about getting old.
