FREE mud golf tomorrow FREE mud golf tomorrow
Yaaaaaaaay!

"Charity" event to send some mentally retarded kids to camp this summer.

It is work related so I am taking a sponsors spot. 4 free beers and free lunch, mulligans are $5 each.

He are playing here http://www.riversbendgolf.com/ a course I am not really too crazy about. That is RARE for me to say but it is position to position and if you don't or can't hit the shot prescribed you basically get penalized.

Oh and it has been raining here for 4 straight days but looks like it will clear up a bit tomorrow.

Ooooh Hey look they have a beverage cart.

1. Where's the beverage cart GIRL?!?!
At least it's not a LONG course. That's points in its favor.

2. No it isn't very long
But there is not a lot of decision making required and no bail out on some holes. As a duffer I expect to have some "Wiggle room" and a chance to gloriously save my score on a hole. THis is best ball so I can let 'er rip and just have fun.

This is the course I "grew up on". It doesn't look very long but consider that it is about 10 feet above sea level (no up and down hills) and when the humidity is ~90% from mid June on it is very taxing. I have actually watched 4 foursomes PLAY on one of the par 5's.

3. Ugh...#11 looks like a ball-eater.
Ouch.

This is the course I play most of the time now: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/lions.htm

Short, but with narrow fairways. You can be 6 feet off the fairway, and in the trees. The picture is the 17th, par 3, playing about 180 from the blues.

4. Cool! at Deer Run by the time you get to 18 you are BEAT!
And when it gets really hazy you can hardly see the flag. A friend of mine once kised the ground on the 18th hole "The promised land!!!" we had WALKED the course (and we suck so we walked more than normal) in 90 degree 90% humidity. Whew what a day that was.

5. When I want some forgiving fairways, I go here.
http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/jimmyclay.htm

I play here sometimes, too. http://www.austincityguide.com/riverside-golf-course-austin.htm This is the old Austin Country Club where Harvey Penick taught, and where Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw used to play. The neighborhood kinda went downhill, and the ACC moved. The course is still nice though. Narrow at times, though.

7. What is a Mulligan?
As a non-golfer I've got to ask:

What is a mulligan, and why on earth would I pay $5 for one?

Do I have to feed it?

Will I need insurance coverage for my mulligan?

Kidding, mostly, but really, what IS a mulligan?

8. It's a do-over.
So, if you hit a bad shot, you get another chance at it. The $5 is to raise more funds for the charity. Since under normal playing conditions mulligans aren't allowed, in friendly tournament play they are normally sold to raise a little more cash, and allow us hackers a do-over.

11. Heh...a round of golf costs me $18 on the weekends.
That's because I don't ride a cart, and I play city courses.

I organize a charity golf tournament and our entry fee (including green fees, cart, lunch and two mulligans) is under $50/person. A bargain. But then, we're all state employees, so none of us are rich. :D

Which is COMPLETE Bulls**t because HER boss (my other boss)is the one who told me to play. I can see this being a big stinky problem on Thursday. Oh well I will enjoy myself as much as possible.

12. You got hosed.
But, any day on the golf course beats a day at work.
