Question about radio reception in car

In my car, AM radio has interference. When I accelerate, I can hear a buzz. This doesn't happen with FM.

This is really a problem because I want to listen to WLIB 1190.

Today I thought I'd outsmart my car radio and I took a regular battery-powered radio in my car. It still picked up the sound of the acceleration.

What's going on? What can I do to eliminate this problem so I can listen to my buddy Al Franken?

1. I have the same problem!

I live in the Hartford area and have a bitch of a time picking up WLIB on my car radio.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet figured out how to eliminate what I call the "acceleration buzz." If I do, though, I'll be sure to post it! :hi:

2. The ignition sparks are causing radio interference....

You can buy spark suppressors to cure the problem. I think they install on the positive power lead to the radio.

3. Spark plug wires, and or alternator whine, and/or fuel pump....
