Batmobile Toy Warning Issued - Laceration Hazard
<snip>

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The Joker and the Riddler could not do it, but the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission has put the Batmobile out of commission.

The CPSC and toymaker Mattel Inc. on Wednesday issued a notice telling parents to take a Batmobile toy car away form their children, because the rear tail wings on the car pose a puncture or laceration hazard.

"Parents should take these toys away from children immediately and contact the firm for information on receiving free replacement wings," the recall notice said.

Mattel has received 14 reports of injuries from the toy, including scrapes, scratches, lacerations and punctures. Four required medical treatment, the recall notice said.

5. I remember those. Mine was a Willies Jeep.
After using it like a skateboard the weak plastic innards would fall out. Then it would get left out in the rain to rust up a little, and it became a rolling, rollicking tetanus toy of Fun!

To tell the truth, that was one of my favorite toys.

6. Those were great!
There was a xmas special with Ed O'Neil as a toy maker. A worker brings him a dumptruck and he feels the edge and says "You call that sharp? I wanna be able to shave with that thing!"

8. A funny story in my family is that my brother actually took apart
a Tonka truck all by himself when he was 2. :) They still make the big metal ones. My son has the the back hoe, dump truck and crane.

for feeding me cookie dough and cake batter with raw eggs in it. And for letting me ride a bike without a helmet or pads. And for letting me ride in the back of a pickup. And for making me eat lima beans. I coulda DIED!

2. Oh, sure, my kid won't miss it

It only sits on top of his toy shelves, with Batman sitting in it, looking menacingly for bad guys.

Let me take it away from him, and baby him until he's 45 years old. Sheesh, I'll just lock him up for about 20 more years in a padded room. :eyes:

7. sometimes all these warnings seem absurd
doesn't anyone have any sense

but then again, I grew up playing on metal swingsets, seesaws and rusting junglegyms with concrete below. Why don't we just put all the kids in rubber suits with airbags?!!?

10. I'm reminded of a joke....now this is a joke people, so don't get upset
I think it was Carlin.

I'm actually pretty sure it was Carlin.

He talked about how he would swim in the worst filth, yet was ok. Yet somehow the generations after him were getting sick from the weakest shit. I tend to agree. Instead of taking antibiotics every time you're ill, sometimes you should just ride it out. Too much protection equals not enough inner Resistance.

11. kheph, you and my Dad would get along great. He feels that way
as well. He swam in the river in Milwaukee as a boy which probably had Ecoli then, they just didn't know how to test for it. He grew up on food that would sit on the table for three days and they would just pick off what they wanted. He is now 60 years old and in pretty good shape.

I think a lot of it is mind over matter. :hi:

12. fun toy banned because of three stupid dead kids..
WASHINGTON, DC—In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Wizco Toys of Montclair, NJ, recalled 245,000 Aqua Assault RoboFighters Monday after three dumb kids managed to kill themselves playing with the popular toy, ruining the fun for everybody else.

"The tragedy is inconceivable," Wizco president Alvin Cassidy said. "For years, countless children played with the Aqua Assault RoboFighter without incident. But then these three retards come along and somehow find a way to get themselves killed. So now we have to do a full recall and halt production on what was a really awesome toy. What a waste."

"My mom won't let me play with my RoboFighter because of those dumb kids who died," said 10-year-old Jeremy Daigle of Somerville, MA. "I used to set up army guys around the RoboFighter and have it run over them and conquer Earth for the Zardaxians. But now I'll never see it again, all because three stupid idiots had to go and wreck everything."

Each of the deaths was determined to be the result of gross misuse of the toy, an incredibly cool device that could shoot both plastic missiles and long jets of water, as well as maneuver over the ground on retractable wheels.
