How secure is your job?
Are you worried it might be gone soon?

1. Not too worried...
But you never know in these uncertain times.

2. I'm all right, I think...
Customer service is usually pretty safe. They did all the layoffs, but our workload doubled, as did the stress level.

3. Tell that to Amazon.com
And many other companies that moved customer service to India.

28. I don't do telephone service.

I actually have to go to different companies and deal with them face to face, and do the onsite work. I doubt they will be able to outsource a two hour onsite response time to a different country, until they invent star trek like transporters.

If my clients leave, on the other hand, or switch to a different product line, I am toast though, that is where the double amount of stress is right now, in making sure they do not switch to different companies products.

Oh, and as to your comment about Amazon, they were a previous client of mine, as was a slew of dot-commers that do not exist anymore. I have seen many call centers, and programming companies get outsourced overseas, and it sucks to see it, but that is the reality of the situation at this moment. Until people like us get up off of our dead asses, and pressure Washington to make wholesale changes, by installing federal regulation on overseas labor, and by taxing the companies until it is not economically viable to move American jobs overseas, nothing is going to change.

4. Pretty secure
We've gone from 25 employees to 50 in the last year. I'd say that's a pretty good sign.

5. I am an employment counselor...
on the one hand, in this market, I have PLENTY of customers! However, the repugs in charge keep wanting to cut our budgets, so ya never know. Even worse, since I work for a non-profit agency, they are able to opt-out of UI. If I get canned, I don't get any UI pay.

But I think I am personally pretty safe. I have an interview tomorrow at another of our offices for a transfer. It's a lateral move, but it cuts my commute by 85%! That amounts to close to $100 a month in savings!

11. Pretty secure, I work in a bar, I can't be outsourced,
WE do a good business and I make great $$$. Barring any unforseen circumstances like the owner selling , I can't see that I have a reason to worry.

cook and bottle washer...second job is in real estate appraising and I do that on my own time. I am very thankful...although MrG works for the automotive/aerospace industry and unless they get govt contracts, he's on shaky ground. :hi:

They just laid off almost 30 people where I work, some of them with much more experience than I.
I do have more skills than any of my coworkers anyways.

23. I work in a hospital..
doing patient care and even in that setting, when things get slow they start to canceling you from your shift. So, if you don't have the vacation or holiday time saved up you have to take it without pay. I always thought that the medical field would be the safest to keep away from lay off, but it has its other draw backs. Working every other weekend and alternating holidays. But I guess in the long haul it is the most stable job that I have had so far in life.

It's a double edged sword, of course. We're stuck with a lot of worthless folks. I wish we could fire people. We'd be much more efficient

26. Having been through TWO plant shutdowns
I would never ever say for certain that my job is secure, but this one I'm reasonably certain about. And I work for a guy named Bush. He was an actual Air Force Pilot and is a good businessman, if a bit of a bastard. I'm pretty sure he's a repub though, so he may decide to break up the union and shut us down.

The only way I can lose it, is if I quit or do something really stupid to be fired... or die.
