Top 10 Rock Albums (IMO) from the late 80's-early 90's

In no particular order...and keep in mind these aren't the "most influential" or "most inspiring" but ones I just fucking liked, and never get sick of...

Chances are, if you looked into my walkman at any given time during this period, you would have found one of these tapes inside, but so worn you wouldn't be able to make out the printing on the cassette...

and I love BÖC. With all due respect, Club Ninja was better than that trash. Imaginos sounded like a warmed over Dio album. Pearlman should have kept that baby under wraps. Pat Travers was a good choice though.

it was released in the late 80's and early 90's (I'm sort of constrained by the timeframe named). Subpar BOC is better than most other stuff, and Imaginos still had a few killer tracks ("Siege and Investiture..." for one).

Hell, I thought Aerosmith's "Get a Grip" was terrible, but it was still better than most of the garbage released during the time. It was a bad era for music, which is wht Pat Travers gets four albums on my list and no one else came to mind. Of course, my problem is that my musical taste got stuck in the 70's and remains there.

They're from my home town and I've seen them play on MANY occasions.

In fact, Jonn Penney (the singer) ever came to see MY band play on a couple of occasions! WOOOOOOO!

I saw them back in '91 (with Jesus Jones opening) and they were so amazing! Still have my shirt! I have all their albums. Miss them terribly. The Wonder Stuff too.

So are Ned's back playing together then? I know they had kind of splintered for awhile and were doing their own things. Any news?

I've just thrown away my knackered "Kill your television" T-shirt and also my Wonderstuff "Stourbridge" T-shirt.

I went out with Alex's (the Ned's bassist...one of them anyway) sister for about a week at school.

Ned's split and Jonn went to college to do media studies or something, after first trying his luck with another band (whose name I don't recall but who I saw once at JBs). However, Ned's did a one-off gig at Dudley castle a few years back, to celebrate an anniversary of the old JBs club where they used to play (and filmed the KYTV video)....and where my band played once too! Hoorah! Miles Hunt did an acoustic set. However, Ned's were missing at least one member...I think that Rat isn't with them any more and they had another guitarist.

Ned's seem to be doing reunion gigs every couple of years, one in London and one in the Midlands. The Wonderstuff did it a few years back too - I saw them at the Kentish Town Forum.

So......you don't mention PWEI, who form part of a set with the Ned's and the Stuffies - you like?

Their stuff seemed a bit more repetitive to me. I have a copy of "This is the Day, This is the Hour, This is This," but some of it comes really close to dance mixes, which I can't stand.

But I saw an interview with two of the guys on MTV years ago--Clint and, I forget... (think I still have it) and they were pretty funny.

I loved their Midlands accents. At the time I'd never heard anything like it, used to watching too much Monty Python. I'd never heard anyone pronounce the band "Slyer" instead of Slayer before.

Both feature the late great Kevin Gilbert.

Truth and Soul is one monster of an album. Seriously, so many years later when I put that thing in the CD player I remain in complete and total awe of how one band could do all that. In a perfect world, that album would have been as big as Nevermind, if not bigger.
