For the purpose of colonoscopy, is beer considered a clear liquid?

The rest of prep wouldn't seem so bad if it were.

Does anyone know?

The Versed didn't work during my colonoscopy and it ended up being quite painful. You might want to ask about what drugs they use and what protocols are in place in case one doesn't work. Luckily, the demerol worked just fine.

If this one is clear I don't have to go back for 5 years, the way I feel now it will be five years either way.

Unfortunately, both my father and paternal grandfather died of metastasized colon cancer, so I started the procedure young.

You are out anyway? And the medical staff are paid to deal with (and a colonoscopy on someone with gas is probably the least of their problems).

You end up farting quite a bit after the procedure. :) At least it isn't that smelly since your bowels are empty. :)

I asked the same question before I had a kidney removed. Docs said "No way".

Ginger Ale is about as close as you can get.

A kidney removal is very much more serious than what they have planned for me. Maybe there is an exception for minor stuff.

So maybe the general consensus has changed in the last 30 years.

I would only be concerned because alcohol will dehydrate you; and that could make things more uncomfortable for you than they already will be.

In my local newspaper answered this the other day and said that it should be fine unless specifically told otherwise. I am not sure what newspaper syndicate delivers Dr. Gott, but you could do a Google search.

Clear liquids are limited to water and sparkling soda (7-Up, Sprite, etc.).

It's not that most foods and liquids interfere w/ the actual procedure, but the densities in most foods and liquids do interfere with the imaging results.

I'm the first to say that I don't know the precise imaging equipment used in a colonoscopy. That being said, I worked in an OP Radiation center for about 6 years and did OP Procedure Scheduling for a hospital for about two years and you end up picking this stuff up.

For example, if a patient drinks coffee four hours before a scheduled bone-scan scan, the coffee can still actually show up on the scan as Unidentified Density Mass. And that is something you don't want the therapists concerning themselves with...
