House cat owners: Do you give your pets heartworm medicine?

Mine never go outside. Should I treat them for heartworms anyway?

1. We never have.

and I have never had a vet recommend it. I think the only cat we treated was the cat that moved into our backyard, he stays out all the time.

and those annoying varmints do get in the house, so we give our furry kids medicine even though they are strictly indoor cats.

I have 4 indoor-only cats and have decided not to put them on heartworm preventative. I think the odds are incredibly low that the extremely rare mosquito that gets in my house will be a carrier and will transmit it to one of my cats. So I've decided not to put them on the chemical. But I do suggest that you discuss it with your vet (as I did) and be aware of all the options and the consequences.
