How risky is it to download music for free nowadays?
Someone just asked for suggestions about music to download. I was under the impression that nowadays it's risky to download music for free from file-sharing services, since the RIAA has started cracking down. Or are there ways to minimize the risk of getting slapped with lawsuits from the music mafia?

but I believe they are going after people that have been hosting large amounts of music for download.

Doesn't mean it is completely safe, but as long as you don't have an ftp server with 4 gigs you should be ok.

They cannot go after the millions who download a few songs here and there.

Well not yet anyway.

edited for spelling

5. Stay off Kazaa's network and you'll probably be fine
Kazaa is so filled with fake worthless downloads that it's almost pointless to use it anyway.

6. I would
look very, very carefully at the file sharing software such as Kazaa, they contain like 45.8 billion spyware programs. Kazaa is full of them.

10. IRC - Efnet and Undernet
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 04:16 AM by Rationality
It's a bit complicated to use mIRC (or one of several other clients if you're using Linux), but once you get the hang of it there's a its a gold mine for mp3s and software...
