But I think we have more pressing matters at the moment than what it takes to drive our horribly inefficient cars. There's certainly some corporate greed involved in the price of gasoline, but quite frankly if Americans weren't so caught up in driving their flashing new speed racers or hulking Humvees, it wouldn't be as big an issue. I would personally be more motivated to protest car manufacturers who for years have marketing these monstrosities as though the environment and the absolute nature of the oil supply would never be an issue that concerned anyone.
There could be solutions to our dependence on oil for traveling purposes, if we sought them out. A more constructive response to the rising gasoline prices would be, in my opinion, demanding our government put serious effort into developing alternatives to our grossly disproportionate consumption of oil.
