Old Lego vs New Lego.
Im a 60s kid.
I was first introduced to Legos via Xmas packages from German grandparents....this was the early, older Legos which had more of an architectural thing going on. Sure, there where wheels and such for cars, and you could buy signs for things like "Garage", or "Esso", or flags, and such.

And, of course, they had "shingle" blocks, and blocks for different window sizes or types...and the glass block blocks, or the curved blocks.....

But , other than that, not too much customization.

Nowdays it seems Legos are really super-customized to various themes.

Is anyone old enough to know what Im talking about?

1. My first legos were the ones my dad had as a kid
The old-school ones. None of these fancy sets. But even when I was a kid the sets at least took more than 15 minutes to put together. Now there are less pieces, and many of the pieces are really large.

They aren't as challenging as they once were. It's very sad :-(

2. well if it is any consolation
my 8 year old enjoys the "packaged ones" ( we have Hogwarts co-opting the dining room table), but also likes to put them together the old fashioned way. :)

3. I prefer the old legos building houses etc.
My son calls himself "number 1 Bionicle lover"

He spent 5 hours assembling Takanuva's Set with Rider
Yesterday ...These are the new lego , he also enjoys
the K-nex another new product from lego .

We are going to legoland in August , I mean this kid
loves Bionicle.

Think of it this way

Apollo mision was built by Tinker Toy kids

Opportunity (mars rover) was built by Transformer kids

I hope tommorows Scientific Discoveriers come from
Bionicle builders
