My brother sent me some old videos - help me pick

Sorry, the answers will be not so intriguing.

He decided to get rid of his video collection, for reasons unknown to me or the rest of the universe. He had them because many years ago, he purchased them.

He sent them to me because he knows I have a collection of over 1500 videos, but have holes in that collection.

Yes, fortunately, I live in a cave. I prefer it that way. There is never a leaky roof to repair, and once the wild animals have learned it is no longer theirs alone, they are content to share. Ah. Life in a cave is good.

I just thought it a bit strange ......to be planning to watch such oldies...but indeed goodies.... I just knew there was a good explanation.

Midnight Cowboy defies a "critical review." This is a movie without wasted, unentertaining scenes. The performances of Voight and Hoffman are flawless. But, give it your best shot. :7

all of his hardships. No matter how low things got he kept his appeal and humanity. It was only when he had to get money to help Ratzo that he sacrificed his humanity.

Crazed fans and blowhards. Other than that, a pretty succinct history for the uninitiated.

The distance between the eastern elite establishment and the "local yokel" in Texas has been dramatically decreased since this movie was first released in 1969. For those who are unaware, it won best picture, and for good reason.

At the time, there were few movies that dealt with reality and its individual, human problems in a realistic, or even semi-realistic, way. This movie cracked barriers. They weren't barriers of language (ooohhh- can they say fuck on tv now?), but they were barriers of thought. This is a thought provoking, socially conscious movie in many layers.

The main character (Jon Voight) is a damaged person. He grew up in basically Nowhere, Texas with his grandmother after his apparently non-caring mother dropped him off. Grandma was pleased to have him around, because she used him sexually. He grew up, worked in the local greasy spoon, and decided one day he was going to use his "asset" to become a gigolo in NY City!

He was laughed at, and an object of ridicule. He couldn't believe what it cost to live in the city. He ran across "Ratso" (don't tell him I called him that), who was a crippled, streetwise loser who lived in abandoned buildings.

They developed a friendship over the course of the story that draws you in and won't let you go back to your previous reality without at least a thought about what people go through in their day-to-day hopeful, yet desperate lives.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and recommend it to all who would like to see a drama with a sense of humor that causes you to become one with the characters. They don't make'em like this anymore!

I once worked with a wingnut fundie who was appalled that I called the movie a Christian parable. Screw him. I'm right, he's wrong :)

one's faith and humanity over diversity. That movied kicked ass. Period.

The other was the first time I saw Citizen Kane. Both, groundbreaking films.

What I loved about "Cowboy" is that even though Voight's character was "damaged" he kept his humanity and sense of humor. He learned not to take himself too seriously. Great message for us all.
