BBV: Email virus possibly hitting us?
About the same time as the blackout my email program locked up. I restarted my computer and it still would not work but later that evening it did. Today I was surfing and emailing and it did it again only this time there was no fixing it. The problem is that the address book program is corrupted and locks up when you "send" the amil and it tries to open address book to add the address to the address book.

I uninstalled and reinstalled. When that didn't work I erased the address book and uninstalled and reinstalled and it still won't work.
My son thinks we have to reinstall Windows ME. (He wants me to start over but the last time I did that it was six months before I got all my software back on and working so I am waiting for a second opinion from my brother. It may just be that my program got corrupted but it may be a virus. I checked last week and will check again later tonight to see if housecall can find anything but I thought I should mention it because of the discussion between Paranoid Pat and Bev Harris on the BBV thread.

I have a hotmail account I can use and Outlook will recieve and open both mail accounts OK.

3. Windows ME was not susceptible to the recent blaster/lovesan worm.
Sorry I don't know any more than that.

4. Steps to try
You don't say much about what you are using, so these are sort of vague ideas about how to proceed.

1. Are you using anti-virus software? If so update it and re-scan for viruses.

2. Are you using some firewall to protect against future attacks and discover if any unauthorized contact between your computer and the net is being attempted (and block it).?

3. It might just be that your email software broke. Try another email program. Pegasus is one obscure stand-alone freeware prg to try.
